Sri Lanka has had a great impulse of talent with the Ayubowan! project. However, the team had a change of sponsor and all the professionals are now scattered over many teams.
Some fans of the professionals help their heroes out by catching the breakaway and bringing them to the line. Perera, Prasad and Silva are the favorites for a sprint.
However, the others won't simply bring them to the line. Manamalage, Siriwardena and Kumara attack with six kilometer to go.
Suddenly the fans decide not to chase and the trio got a lead of over a minute. Perera, Prasad and Silva have to respond themselves, starting a very long sprint at three kilometer but still they have difficulty catching. Perera has almost closed the gap under the flag.
Manamalage and Siriwardena alongside each others with 400 meters to go, Kumara unsure whether to help Perera or go for his own chances. Perera has spent a lot of energy catching and is struggling to pass the front three. Prasad and Silva will battle for fifth and sixth.
Kashyapa Siriwardena wins the Sri Lankan Championships! He is not the best sprinter in the country but joined the right move and beat his rivals. Manamalage and Kumara complete the podium. Perera tried his best but only gets to fourth, and Prasad beats Silva for fifth. Ranaweera was also in the race and finishes first of the peloton in seventh.
Rajapakshage will not race today, and no former winner is at the start either. Who will claim his first Sri Lankan Time Trial Championship!
Siriwardena is set to take the double with a time one second under one hour and five minutes. He is the fastest so far with only one rider starting after him.
That rider is Ranaweera, and he spoils the party by beating him by 46 seconds.
Last in the RR, first in the TT: Suranga Ranaweera.
