Kanepejs looks like the favorite. Dakteris is the current champion.
A 5-rider amateur breakaway is formed but with 19km to go they are back in the fold and the peloton is together.
Over the top of the final climb Kanepejs, Budenieks and Smukulis attack.
Down the descent Belevics tries to keep them in reach, at the base Budenieks has 15 seconds on the other two who have 16 seconds on the peloton.
With 6.5k to go Spar goes to the front to try and reel them back in, which is odd since Budenieks rides for Spar. He has 17 seconds over the other two who have 26 seconds on the 35 rider chasing group.
With 3km to go Kanepejs, and Smukulis reach the leader. They have a 40 second lead.
The leaders still have 39 seconds as they go under the red kite.
300 meters to go and it is still neck and neck.
Budnieks pulls away and wins the Latvian National Championship Road Race. He was the strongest today.
