DK Žalgiris boycotts this Lithuanian National Championship, resulting in a heavily reduced startlist. The professionals are mixed with the amateurs to get an acceptable number of participants.
There was a breakaway which was caught swiftly. At the top of the penultimate hill, the peloton is still together. Ten kilometer to the finish line, including an uphill sprint.
Even at the foot of the final climb the peloton is still together. Konovalovas has a friend pacing him, the other contenders are behind him.
Konovalovas moves to the other side in an attempt to block Kaupas and Navardauskas. Siskevicius now has free road ahead of him.
Navardauskas moves alongside Konovalovas with 500 meter to go. Siskevicius unable to use the free space to his advantage, Kaupas and Videika stuck behind the front two.
Ramunas Navardauskas wins his first Lithuanian Road Race Championship, after winning multiple in the time trial. Kaupas squeezes between Navardauskas and Konovalovas to take second, the latter finishing third. Videika beats Siskevicius for fourth.
Navardauskas is the defending champion and as such is prime favorite for the double.
Kaupas finishes in 1h05'51. He is guaranteed of another podium.
Konovalovas is one second faster in the first twenty kilometer, and that second stays on the board at the finish line. He is also on the podium but definitely not third.
And the composition of the podium will be the same with Konovalovas and Kaupas switched, as Navardauskas beats both by a minute!
Champion of Lithuania in both disciplines: Ramunas Navardauskas!
