No breakaways today.
The pack is down to 25 halfway up the first climb. Ferreira and Avelino are the only pros dropped.
The peloton further whittles down to 18 riders at the top of the climb. Berg and Duolingo have been in control at the control all through the climb.
Portela is dropped with 18 km to go.
10 km left. Brandao, Fernandes and Borges are the riders dropped recently.
5 km to go and the climb to the finish is what's left for the front group.
At the back of this group, we see Reis in trouble!
Six riders get away a kilometre later - Rodrigues, Figueiredo, Antunes, Paulinho, Baltazar, Machado.
Now, it's Machado who's in trouble! Both top favourites are struggling today.
Paulinho attacks with 2,5 km to go.
Paulinho still leads under the Red Kite. Machado looks to be out of it.
Paulinho is caught with 500 meters remaining and looks to be tiring. Machado and Baltazar have also closed the gap.
Paulinho's not done yet! A second wind for the rider as he puts in a few more hard pedal strokes to keep the others at bay. Figueiredo's still closing though. Berg will be very unhappy if they can't make this 3 on 1 advantage count.
Paulinho has enough to keep his lead and win an exciting National Championship. Figueiredo is 2nd with Antunes in 3rd.
Portuguese RR Champion - Pedro Miguel Paulinho.
