Taaramäe is beyond a shadow of a doubt the best rider in Estonia's history. However, he isn't exactly a sprinter, with this route happening to be flat. In fact, no professional rider in Estonia is a good sprinter, so we might see an attack prevailing.
The amateur quintet which could call themselves breakaway is caught at twenty kilometer from the line. The professional teams have hired amateurs to bring them back, but what will happen now?
An amateur in plain white attacks with five kilometer to go, but his mouth opens when looking behind, it is Taaramäe himself on his wheel! Two amateurs in Popo4Ever attire also follow, but the hired Netia riders bring them back.
The sprint to the line led by current champion Laas. All pros in the front positions but a few amateurs mixing in. We might get a surprising winner.
Tarvis trying to get alongside Laas. They have a lead over Kiskonen and Taaramäe, and even more over Johanson and Pruus. All amateurs are blown away, as if sprinting is considered illegal in Estonia.
And in the final 100 meters Peeter Tarvis passes Lauk to steal his blue-black-white jersey! Kiskonen beats Taaramäe for the final podium spot, and Johanson beats Pruus for fifth. Who finished seventh, no clue, some local chap most likely.
Kangert and Joaeer are so scared of Taaramäe that they don't even participate in the time trial. A walk in the part for the Aker rider then.
His only competition might come from within. Pruus might surprise if the weather worsens, as he is the first starter and Taaramäe the last. 1h06'39 is not that bad of a time.
But it is nothing compared to Taaramäe. No weather change, no wrong turn, no banana on the road. He is faster by three minutes and thirty-one seconds, passing every other participant except Pruus on his way to victory. The podium is completed by Kiskonen at 4'32, the others at more than eight minutes.
Rein Taaramäe can still call himself the best time trialist in Estonia!
