Recently bought PCM2008 (new to cycling games) but when putting the disc in my laptop on loading i get an extremly loud noise and vibration from the disc drive and it only seems to be happening with this disc. It's great that i can go 3 days without having to use the disc but i just wanted to check if other people get louder than normal noise from tehir computer when inserting the disc, it stops by the time the game is open.
It may be due to the fact that the game uses the CD-protection system Star-Force. It's previously been suggested that this system has a bad influence on CD drives: "For example, here's one of the common problems brought by Starforce: under Windows XP, if packets are lost during the reading or writing of a disk, XP interprets this as an error and steps the IDE speed down. Eventually it will revert to 16bit compatibility mode rendering a CD/DVD writer virtually unusable. In some circumstances certain drives cannot cope with this mode and it results in physical hardware failure (Most commonly in multiformat CD/DVD writer drives)."
I have a theory: Do you have a DVD-drive? No seriously, i know the odds are really low that people still own CD-drives, but if you put a DVD into a CD-drive, it does make a lot of noise.
I know that Starforce issue well..first pro game just destroyed my one cd rom.
Now one..i have been using downloaded version..no problems so far. A little slow support but ok.

yea it's a dvd drive, its a brand new sony vaio everything is up to date, going to try a few more discs in it to see whether it could be the laptop or just this disc it doesn't seem to be as bad now
