 Nantahala Classic
We head to North Carolina for the latest C1 race, the hilly Nantahala Classic. The clash with the Tour of Beijing means a weaker field than you would usual find in a race of this nature, but some of the top PCT and CT puncheurs have still made the trip, with reigning champion  Maurice Schreurs and  Cesare Di Maggio the headliners. Additionally, the repeated climbing may favour those climbers with a decent punch who have made the trip here.

Really hoping there is enough climbing to sap the two top favorites and give Chaves a chance for a win here. Will need a high tempo for this to be effective, did bring a climber in Oscar Solis but need to make sure he can do the work.

Di Maggio is always a wildcard with his more one dimensional stats. Schreurs looks like a safe bet, but after him there is a raft of similar riders. I just hope Bilbao finds a way to shine above the rest, we need as close as possible a repeat of his Wallonie performance.

The clash with Beijing means that we have had to split our forces between the two events. Sepulveda gets a chance to show how he can cope with 1-day leadership rather than stage races with TT's where he has been excelling this season. He has good support from Zakarin (surprisingly not listed amongst the pre-race favourites), and the likes of Khederi or Affonso might be well suited if they can infiltrate the BotD given that our leaders are far from the top of the favourite list. The profile looks quite tough in terms of more than 1 quite long looking sustained climbs, so perhaps Sep, Zakarin et al. can benefit from their combo of solid hill and mountain capabilities here.

And just like that, back to reality as our top leader finishes outside the Top 100 again, just like in Kenya.  
This whole season is just one random mess, with no explanation for why things like this even happen. Riders with similar stats all throughout the Top 10. Entire teams finish ahead of another teams leader, even tho some of those teammates have riders with MO/HIl in the 60's. Just doesn't make any sense. Froome should have Top 20'ed here, theres really no way he should be in 112th.

That's the type of performance I was hoping for from Bilbao
The somewhat boring race helped as it was all about the final hill. It looked at first that Bilbao couldn't match the initial acceleration, but he got back on the wheel, looked to save some energy and finished very strong. 5th place is a good result in our fight against the drop.
