Tbilisi

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/lvc.png van Schip opens the race in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/sig.png Mansilla and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/adr.png Van Hoecke

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/02.jpg

The breakaway build a lead of about 7’30 over the first 50 km, now we see the pack up the pace a little, starting to cut of some of the gap, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Afonso, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/and.png Bakari, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Beniusis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Ngandamba and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Scotson working in the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/03.jpg

The distance stabilized around 6 minutes, as the breakaway passes the first peak.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/04.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/and.png Bakari, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Jacobs, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Kiskonen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Scotson up the pace a bit more and cut the distance over the flat mountain plateau and the downhill, the breakaway hit the valley between the first two mountains with 4’59”

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/05.jpg

At the flat between the two first mountains more riders pulling the pack, Andorra Cycling Project, Berg Cycles, BNZ Cycling Team, DK Zalgiris and GCN ProTeam with two riders each, but not with that much effect reducing the gap just 20” over the section before the climb starts.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/06.jpg

On the climb also weak riders lead the pack and do not cut the gap, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Afonso, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Kiskonen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Erdenesuren, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Beniusis

Up front pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/lvc.png van Schip dropped over the top, the leading duo pass with 42” to van Schip another 3’45 to the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/07.jpg

In the pack the pace was high on the downhill we get splits, with just 56 rider left in the pack, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/kaz.png Izagirre and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ros.png Mat Senan missed the cut.
Up front pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/lvc.png van Schip gets closer on the downhill hitting the valley at just 19”

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/08.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/lvc.png van Schip do get contact with his breakaway companions, but at the long undulated flat leading up to the last climb, he boils over and was soon reeled in by a now fast peloton.

The remaining duo got 1’34 starting the last mountain, 40 km left. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/kaz.png Izagirre came back to the pack, group pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ros.png Mat Senan with 1’26” to the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/09.jpg

The breakaway was over with 37 km left, about 4.5 km to the mountain top.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/10.jpg

3 km to the top, attack by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Squire

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/11.jpg

Accelerations from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Le Bon and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png Yemane, and lately pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Juodvalkis attempts to close the gap. They do not succeed but the peloton was split onto several groups

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/12.jpg

Finally, just after he has passed the top pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Squire can no longer hold of the top favorites, we now got a leading group of 13 riders starting the short flat mountain plateau before the final descent to the finish line in Chargali.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png Bagot, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/phi.png Bardet, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Intxausti, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Juodvalkis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Kiserlovski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png La Lavandier, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/and.png Pantano Gomez, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Portela, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Potocki, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Rodrigues, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Squire, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Vinhas and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png Yemane

They would later be joined by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/des.png Minguez Ayala and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/lvc.png Niyonshuti before the downhill.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/13.jpg

On the downhill a few more riders able to join the leading group pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Brandao, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Burke, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png de Laat, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Edmondson, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/and.png Hirschlein and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/kaz.png Izagirre (nice comeback from him)

Then just as this 21 riders group is about to pass under the 5 km banner, acceleration by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png Bagot, now just pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/phi.png Bardet, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Burke, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Intxausti, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Kiserlovski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png La Lavandier, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/and.png Pantano Gomez, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Rodrigues, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Squire and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Vinhas able to hang in.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bgc.png Rodrigues takes the lead from four kilometers, and from pole position he opens the final sprint, without looking back he claims Sakartvelo Trophy with a margin of 5-6 meters.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/15.jpg

In a close fight pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png La Lavandier 2nd in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Vinhas taking the last podium.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/and.png Pantano Gomez 4th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Intxausti 5th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Kiserlovski 6th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/phi.png Bardet 7th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Squire 8th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fca.png Bagot 9th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Burke rounds of top 10

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/Sakartvelo/17.jpg

30” later pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Potocki wins the sprint in the next group, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/kaz.png Izagirre 12th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/lvc.png Niyonshuti 13th pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Edmondson 14th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/lvc.png Lindau rounds of top 15
