The Race
Nantua
8 riders leave the pack behind as soon as the flag drop, Jacobsen, Nareklishvili, Affonso, Rabottini, Malori, Kangert, Boswell and Kulimbetov
The original breakaway got 39”, when the next attack comes. Kirsch, Robov and Prado
The trio in pursuit bridge to the original breakaway quite fast, we have 11 riders at the front of the race.
But the attacking in not over an soon we got a new pursuit Kneisky, Sepulveda, Jang, Brenes, Bevin, Boom, Vlasov, Koshevoy and Pernsteiner
As the climb to Côte de Sonthonnax starts, after about 10 km on the route we got Group Prado (11 riders) leading
Group Koshevoy (9 riders) at 37”, the pack at 1’15”
New attack, KoM leader David, Bongiorno, Boros, Jungels, Vliegen and Zakarin
Robov takes the first KoM in front of Prado and Jacobsen
The leading group takes a breather to regain some energy after the KoM, and all the 26 riders mentioned earlier unite to form one large breakaway. The peloton just enjoying the sunshine presently at 5’07”
Let’s take a look at what we got:
Rider GC KoM U23 Boom83th 27'08 x x Jacobsen82th 27'03 x x Jungels95th 32'16 9th (22) x Kirsch35th 14'36 x x Kneisky124th 47'51 x x Boswell64th 23'31 x x Nareklishvili90th 29'50 x x Bongiorno38th 15'35 5th (26) x Rabottini75th 25'14 x x Kangert31th 13'24 x x Brenes45th 18'13 7th (24) x Kulimbetov132th 55'44 15th (13) x Affonso29th 12'55 x x Koshevoy30th 13'03 37th (2) x Sepulveda47th 18'41 x x Pernsteiner52th 20'43 x x Boros186th 1h+ x x Prado21th 9'29 4th (26) x Robov56th 22'03 x x Vliegen108th 41'07 x x David113th 42'49 1th (39) x Jang51th 20'24 x x Bevin39th 17'09 x x Malori114 (43'21) x x Vlasov94th 32'07 x 15th 30'23 Zakarin136th 54'03 x 31th 54'03
Liepins have taken the lead in the pack, reducing the gap to 4’08 as the pack starts the 2nd KoM climb
In the breakaway Jacobsen attack from the distance, hard enough to win at Côte de Treffort in front of Boom and Bongiorno
There was a split, Affonso, David, Jungels, Kneisky, Kulimbetov, Malori, Sepulveda, Vliegen Zakarin lost about a minute over the KoM, but as the next part of the route is quite easy, they get back.
Boros and Zakarin was dropped near the intermediate sprint in Treffort-Cuisiat, a bit strange as the rout is quite easy at the point, anyway they decided to call it a day and fell back to the peloton.
Other than that, not much happen before we reach the next KoM, besides the fact that the pack have been quite fast, now at just 2’14.
Kneisky, Malori, Affonso, Jungels dropped, they lose 1’57” on the climb, clearly won’t get back
David lost 1’19”, Sepulveda 1’14” they may or may not get back.
Kulimbetov 48” he has a fair change.
Pernsteiner attack about 1 km from the top, taking the KoM at Côte de Poizoux in front of Boom and Prado
Just as the breakaway start the climb to Côte d’Arnans, the first of two cat.2 KoM climbs today, David was reeled in by the peloton. Whereas Sepulveda have been able to reconnect with the leading riders.
There is now longer anyone between the 19 riders left in the breakaway and the 161 riders presently included in the pack. Distance 1’59”
Menten lead the pack.
Prado attack the KoM from 1.1 km, but it is Kangert first to the line in front of Prado, Kirsch, Pernsteiner and Bongiorno.
With this Prado virtual KoM leader.
Again we get a splits in the breakaway over the top of the climb, 44.6 km left the situation is:
Leading: Bevin, Bongiorno, Boswell, Jang, Kangert, Kirsch, Pernsteiner, Prado, Robov and Vlasov
At 17”: Boom, Brenes, Jacobsen and Koshevoy
At 57”: Nareklishvili
At 1’14” Sepulveda
At 1’42” Kulimbetov, Rabottini and Vliegen
At 2’08 The pack, 157 riders with all four jerseys
The direct pursuit
Group Brenes rejoin the breakaway, on the downhill and flat everyone else was reeled in by the pack.
The now 14 riders start the climb to Côte de Thoregna, with a peloton closing in very fast, 30.2 km left distance 1’14”, the pack have visual contact.
With the very intense pace in the peloton suddenly we se some better climbers in difficulties, the pack is down from the mentioned 157 riders to 88, not as a split, but small clusters of riders not able to keep up.
Aru have lost 2’38” to the pack and Ji have lost 1’56”
Group Ji
Pernsteiner attack for the KoM from 700 meters, holding his lead to the top, Kirsch 2nd and Kangert 3rd.
Pernsteiner atgtempt to continue his attack, but can’t hold out for long, before they reach the bottom before the upcoming cat.2 climb Côte de Matafelon, he is back with his breakaway companions.
Kangert attack first but Brenes was just able to pass and take the maximum KoM point, ahead of Kangert, Prado, Bongiorno and Vlasov
Over the top the situation is:
Leading: Bevin, Bongiorno, Boswell, Jang, Kangert, Prado, Robov, Vlasov, Brenes and Koshevoy
At 19” Kirsch
At 52” Boom
At 1’12” Jacobsen
At 1’20 Pernsteiner
At 2’39” The pack, 47 riders.
The leading 10 starts the last climb of the day, 3.5 km to the top, 13.7 to the finish line
Bongiorno leads, then Vlasov, but Koshevoy make the decisive move.
Robov 2nd and Boswell 3rd
Hirt attack from the pack, in the process at pack splits.
As the leading riders got 5.2 km left to the line the situation is:
Leading: Bevin, Bongiorno, Boswell, Brenes, Jang, Kangert, Koshevoy, Robov and Vlasov
At 48” Prado
At 2’21” Kirsch
At 2’57” Hirt
At 3’28” Bernard

Bongiorno leads, behind him almost side by side, Kangert and Koshevoy.
Third row Bevin, Brenes, Vlasov
Boswell, Robov, Jang at the rear of the group.
Kangert wins in Arbent with Bevin 2nd and Robov takes the last podium
Bongiorno 4th, Boswell 5th, Koshevoy 6th, Brenes 7th, Vlasov 8th and Jang 9th, all those in the same time
