The Race

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png van den Berg opens the race as soon as the flag drops, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/akm.png Walsleben quick to respond, the stage start with a short uncategorized hill, Côte de Belmont d’Azergues slopes up to 7%.

The attack at Côte de Belmont d’Azergues

Indosat Ooredoo – ANZ clearly unsatisfied with the fact that they did not get a rider in the breakaway, working with first pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png Luchshenko and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png Arifin, later most of the team to hold the gap around a minute.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/akm.png Walsleben feeling the pressure from behind accelerates and drop pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png van den Berg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza seize the moment and quickly close the gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png van den Berg, soon to make another attack and catch pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/akm.png Walsleben

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza join the breakaway

With Indosat Ooredoo – ANZ no longer interested in pulling the pack things slow down. The three riders form a breakaway drifting further and further away from the pack.

They reach the foot of Col du Fut d’Avenas with a gap of 2’31”

The breakaway starting the first and hardest climb today

With about 1.5 km to the top pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza accelerate away from his breakaway companions with ease, clearly the stronger rider in the group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza takes the KoM, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/akm.png Walsleben 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png van den Berg 3nd

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Bekmanis from the pack and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/vvg.png Kanerva takes the remaining KoM points.

The peloton passes the top at 4’59”

Col du Fut d’Avenas 8.2 km 5.1%

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/05.jpg

With just 5.2 km between the first and second KoM, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza never allow the pursuit to catch up, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png van den Berg drop pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/akm.png Walsleben over the last 500 meters.

Côte de Ouroux 2.2 km 5.4%

The peloton passes the top of Côte de Ouroux at 4’33”, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Bekmanis leading in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/vvg.png Kanerva

Evonik – ELKO leading the pack on the climbs

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/08.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza slow down after the 2nd KoM, allowing the pursuit to catch up.

The leading trio reunited

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/09.jpg

Again, as soon aspcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza can smell the KoM points, he accelerates and split the breakaway, passing the top with more than 30” to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png van den Berg

Col de Champ Juin 3.4 km 5.0%

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/10.jpg

Still pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Bekmanis leading the pack having cut the distance a little again, the peloton passes the top of Col de Champ Juin at 4’00”

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/11.jpg

The pack keep up the pressure on the breakaway, from Col de Champ Juin (km 76.3) to the points sprint (km 100.2), they reduce the gap to 2’24”
At first pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Sergis and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fes.png Kastrantas later pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/vvg.png Vanderaerden and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/vvg.png Kanerva burning energy.

In the meantime pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/akm.png Walsleben was dropped now sitting 1’08” behind the stage leaders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza take the sprint.

7.3 km to the final KoM
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/akm.png Walsleben swallowed by the pack, the duo in front got 1’18” to a fast pack, with a paceline composed of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Becis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Bekmanis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Sergis, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fes.png Kastrantas, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fes.png Mancuso, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fes.png Rabottini, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/vvg.png Helme, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/vvg.png Kanerva

Sainte-Cécile, 40 km to the finish line

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/13.jpg

1.2 km left to Col du Bois Clair, the pack is now very close less than a minute behind the breakaway, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza accelerates in a last attempt to get some KoM points

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza takes the 5 point in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png van den Berg.

In the pack KoM leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ssc.png David and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/eav.png Jungels in a close fight for the last KoM point, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/eav.png Jungels fastest this time moving up to 22 points.

With this pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ssc.png David will still lead the KoM now 14 points ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ino.png De Souza another 3 points down to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/eav.png Jungels

The pack passes the climb exactly 1 minute behind De Souza

Col du Bois Clair 3.0 km, 4.2%

There was a split forced by Evonik – ELKO, soon after the last climb. In the process the breakaway was also reeled in by the frenetic pace.

With just 13 km left we got a group of 31 riders having a gap of 1’20 to the large peloton.
The only top sprinter in the first group is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Van Stayen, the only GC rider pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fes.png Bongiorno.

Evonik – ELKO’s stage two winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Dzamastagic sitting in the pack, obviously doing nothing to get back to his six teammates in the 31-rider group.

Becis, Bekmanis and Stoltz setting a very high pace

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/17.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Stoltz leading the first group under the 10 km banner, pack at 1’18”

3 km left
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Riesebeek full speed towards the finish line with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Van Stayen clued, The Evonik – ELKO train has hit the breaks and by that nobody react to the acceleration

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/19.jpg

After what can only be seen as a perfect team effort pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Van Stayen wins in Mâcon

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/20.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Stoltz 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/evo.png Becis 3rd

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/PT/Dauphine/S4/21.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png Bettiol 4th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fes.png Rabottini 5th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ebd.png Boswell 6th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/eav.png Wirtgen 7th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/iso.png Vermote 8th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/vvg.png Helme 9th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fpc.png Ssabagwanya round of top 10.

Although there was a clear gap earlier, riders were dripping in all the time preventing official time gaps.
