Today is the first proper road stage of the Tour of Japan. A flat-rated stage around the city of Mino with 130km to be covered.

But is it really flat? The road to Oyada Tunnel offers the opportunity for punchier sprinters and maybe even pure puncheurs to try their luck today.

We also have 3 intermediate sprints and a couple of KoM sprints atop the referred climb, which will award the first polka dot jersey.

It’s quite interesting that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/kof.png Wallays is let go so easily, given he sits 9th in the GC with the same time as the yellow jersey!

La Vie Claire’s manager was clearly unhappy with the state of things. He got the whole squad chasing the break until we got to the foot of the first KoM sprint, where they let loose Goncalves!

The portuguese’s attack was not only able to catch the escapes but he even managed to distance them.

We finish climbing with no surprises. Most teams seemed more interested in protecting their GC leaders than trying to go for the stage.
