Vuelta a Espana
Tineo – Santuario del Acebo 151 km
Welcome to Tineo in the Principality of Asturias, for the first stage of week three.
It will be a hard mountain stage in the area that surrounds Cangas del Narcea in the Cantabrian Mountains range. The race will be composed by three KoM climbs (cat.2.1.1) preceding the relative short but very steep final climb up to Santuario del Acebo which will count as a Hors catégorie.
Most of the 8 km will by at sections above 10% and might favor at climber with a good punchy kick.
27°C, partly clouded with almost no wind.
Iturria opens the stage in front of Brenes
Later Vasyliv and finally Lopez joins the breakaway, but its all wasted energy, as the pack close it down.
From there nothing happens on the long downhill and the first few km of the flat.
The next breakaway attempt comes from Vasyliv with Olivier and Bongiorno at wheel.
A little further back also Lopez with some distance to the pack.
About 3 km later we get another acceleration forming a 9 riders pursuit dominated by Gazelle. Janse van Rensburg, Kruijswijk, Sosnitskiy and Vervaeke with Kirsch, Hacecky Nesset, Brenes and Preidler
They will join the original breakaway about one kilometer up the first KoM climb, Puerto del Acebo. As the name indicate at the same mountain as the final, but on entirely different roads.
Before we get to the KoM sprint, a list of the riders in the breakaway.

With this Bongiorno 3rd in KoM just 4 points behind the leader. Brenes 5th, Hacecky 8th and Preidler 10th.
Over the top Vervaeke, Kruijswijk and Janse van Rensburg was dropped
In the pack it is Landa and Vlasov and later McKenna setting the pace, they have lost 7’36 as they pass the top.
The three Gazelle will close the gap half way down.
Brenes and Kirsch doing most of the work in the breakaway on the false flat leading up to the next climb, in the pack it is Pruus and Hamilton on the flat, Golovash and Pszczolarski at the beginning of the climb.
Again it has been best in GC Bongiorno leading on most of the climb, but Kirsch take over from 3 km and with 1.3 km to the top we get the attack.
