Hey guys. With so much free time on my hands now for obvious reasons I'm enjoying Pcm18 a lot. Having only properly played the 13 edition it's really nice to play this one. Mainly play with world tour teams as thats what I enjoy.
Would like to hear your opinions on a couple of stuff regarding career mode:
1- what's the best way of developing a young talent? Or a more known rider that hasn't achieved his prime? Lets take a rider who is a sprinter. I know its quite vague and it depends on a lot of stuff like morale, results and other stuff but would you put him on a puncher regime so he can develop more stamina/resistance? Struggling to develop some top talents due to not finding the correct formula.
2- Also is there a way of avoiding decline? Valverde with a strong start of the season, winning some major races but then after the break he just starts declining
3- do you tend to compare your results to the teams in "real life"? I've deleted careers just because I wasn't having as much wins as they had in real life and its something I need to balance but would like to hear other people's ideas. Like a save with Movistar and won MSR with Valverde. Carapaz came second to Dumoulin in giro due to the tts but landa finished 3rd on the tdf behind Ala and Froome. I deleted because it wasn't good enough and thought I could have done better. The same with Deceuninck losing some classics and deleted it despite enjoying the save altogether
4- how do you approach the calendar? I tend to only make reasonable schedules. So if a rider is doing a race in Europe I'm not gonna put him the next day in the middle east. Find this the most enjoyable while also taking real life schedule as a base to build my own calendar in the save.
5- do you set little objectives with your riders to keep you interested in the career? Aside from the main goals ofc. Like 5 sprint wins with a certain rider per season
Would love to hear from you and discuss this and other stuff
1. Use best coach and focus on main skill training first is my advice and then you could focus on secondary skills
2. Age decline is variable between riders but you can't avoid it. Just prepare new talents for future seasons.
3. Don't bother with IRL results, no matching should be accepted
4. Forms peaks and some race days before objectives.
For good domestics, you could set them own objectives (see point 5) like winning a HC tour/Classic or a specific jersey.
5. You should have enough objectives from your sponsors and young talents spotting but you should try to get any decent result in races other than objectives since it will bring more sponsor confidence.
