Credit Agricole have failed to find a new sponsor by today, so that means its riders are free to negotiate with any other team. The team's major riders have pledged to give the management a further 2 weeks to find a sponsor though.

Also,

One day after Hendrik Redant reportedly turned down an offer from Russia-based Katusha, Team President Oleg Tinkov expressed that there are many false 'big-contract' speculations tied to the expanding team.

"There is only one true episode," Tinkov said to Cyclingnews concerning contracts with directeur sportifs and riders. "I offered a lot of money to [Fabian] Cancellara, being the best in world today, and he decided to stay with [CSC's Bjarne] Riis. The rest is lie and not true! This creates a negative background for our team."

The man deserves a chance to ride the Tour before he retires! Come on, someone sign him and put him in your Tour team so he can sleep easy! Grin

It is now August second. The first Puerto convicted rider is now free to ride.

His name is of course Michele Scarponi and he has a 2 year contract with Diquigiovanni (for whom, incidentally, Simoni has just re-signed for two years).

Wanna bet this "now clean and reformed" rider will immediately go back to his former level of performance of when he rode for Liberty Seguros and Acqua & Saponne?

EDIT: meanwhile 427 (give or take) year old Hernán Buenahora is one of the 5 riders who tested positive at this year's Vuelta a Colombia. He had already tested positive at the same race in 2006. He's a former Selle Italia-Diquigiovanni-whatever rider, not to mention yet another Kelme rider...

New Dutch pro team forms

A new professional continental squad will enter the peloton in 2009 with the name Vacansoleil Cycling Team. Sponsored by a camping vacation company, the squad will be built upon the existing P3 Transfer-Batavus European Continental team, and will be run by current team manager Daan Luijkx. 18 riders have been signed to the squad, including up and coming riders Bobbie Traksel and Aart Vierhouten.

A statement issued by Vacansoleil laid out the team's ambitions. "The mission of the Vacansoleil Cycling Team is to create a solid base and close team during 2009 with a view to expanding the number of Pro-tour races in 2010 and participating in a major race in 2011."

The company signed on for three years as title sponsor "with its contribution increasing throughout the period". Bicycle manufacturer Batavus is also said to have made a three-year commitment. "For 2009 the Vacansoleil Cycling Team will work with a budget of between three and four million euro. This will increase significantly each year. With this level of support the Vacansoleil Cycling Team will be a European team that will be able to compete internationally for victories."

Vacansoleil previously sponsored football teams, but wanted to expand its focus to cycling in order to reach several countries with one team. It was not put off by the doping problems within the sport. "Cycling is a sport which is very close to the people; a sport which is very popular in many European countries. However it is also a sport which has had difficult times in the past few years. We believe that things can move forward again and are convinced that with Daan and the cyclists he selects, we have made a good choice. They will show that cycling is a great activity that can be sporting, transparent and ambitious and that can be practiced in a positive way. With this message we hope to make contact with many of the people of Europe."

Will we finally have Traksel participating in more important races??

 it says 18 riders are signed to the squad which is not true.
so far they got Wout Poels, Reinier Honig, Wouter Mol, Bobbie Traksel, Aart Vierhouten, Arnoud van Groen, Lieuwe Westra en cyclo crosser Thijs van Amerongen.
They want to add 10 more riders to they team: 4 Dutch and 6 from abroad. They are especially looking for experianced riders, like Vierhouten.

But it indeed seems Traksel will finally get a chance to win a big classic Grin In 1011 (or 1010, dont remember) they hope to rider a Grand Tour.

This is sad..I like teams with a shirt history already...Agricole is gigant in that. T-Mobile was nice..ofcorse they have some dirty things at behind up and downs..but still something.
Also I admire teams like Rabo and Lotto structure..not like Astana..I have money here..come one I will buy matured product already. practice has showing us..that made a product (team) with such way..just dont gonna hang on long.

British Cycling's David Brailsford is continuing his belief that there will be a British road team to ride the Tour de France in the next 2 years. His hopes continued when Sky said they will sponsor the team...

"What I will tell you is that the Tour team will happen"

He has been going on about this for years...Just face it, it aint gonna happen...

I think its a crap idea come on, the big brit names are going to be riding for Top Level teams, the budget wont be big enough to sign riders like Cavendish etc.

Addy291
Exactly, and he has been saying this for years. Now Sky have come in, he thinks they will get lots of money and be able to fund it, but it's still a stupid idea, and they still won't get enouh money from Sky...

Yeah i hope Sky dont steal all the events BBC have on TV too. If Sky were serious about sponsoring Cycling they have by far enough money to sponsor a Pro Tour team.

All? the BBC only show the World Championships...

And are only showing the cycling at the Beijing, because they are showing practically everything at the olympics.
