As we all know, you start your career with a 1 year contract. In that first year I won some continental races and was 2nd in the ITT NC. I got one offer, it was from my current team, 1 year. Fair enough.
In my second year I won the ITT NC and Basque Country. I got three offers: one from my current team and two from continental teams. Not Pro Conti, but continental. All of them 1 year contract.
In my third year I won La Vuelta, the ITT WC and the RWC, and got a bunch of top 10 and podiums on World Tour races. This is all being 21 years old. I got one offer from my current team, 1 year contract, and a 1 year offer from Movistar (after using my 2 network points per month on that team only.), which I accepted. BTW, they changed sponsor the very next year, which is funny, cos it happened to me in several of my Be a Pro games in previous years (signing with a team which changes their big, "classic" sponsor the year I join).
In my fourth year I won Giro, La Vuelta, ITT WC, Romandie, ITT NC, and a bunch of podiums and top 10 in World Tour stage races and classics. How many offers did I get? Yeah, you guessed it: one from my current team and one from the team I spent all of my now 3 network points per month in. Needless to say, both of them were 1 year contracts.
I'm currently in my fifth year, I won Paris-Nice, San Remo, Basque Country, Liege, made several podiums and top 10 in World Tour Races and set my main goals in Tour and Vuelta. Unfortunately the RWC is a flat race this year. Anyway, after spending all of my network points in one team only, as always, I don't have the slightest doubt I'll get exactly two (2) offers, and both of them will be exactly one (1) year contracts.
I'm ok with the fact that teams don't "see" your attributes nor your potential, for the sake of realism. In real life they can't see an exact account, measured in exact numbers, of your attributes and your potential. They only see your results. But holy christ, the results I detailed above would be so ASTONISHING that every single World Tour team should be begging at my door with 3 year offers, dreaming of the chance to sign the most promising prospect since Mercx.
If this is not a completely broken system I don't know what it is, really. I like a lot the idea but it's an absolute disaster, it's so terribly implemented that you wonder if they even bothered testing it at least a few hours, because you can see its obvious flaws in just that many time.
I've been going through this just now (only recently bought this version of the game).
I turned down the offer of a contract from the Pro Conti team I'd been on, because I had a lot of interest from AG2R and was confident of going to the World Tour. And then nothing happened. Got to the end of August without another contract being offered and I had decided that I was going to need to edit the .cdb to keep playing.
But then in mid-September I got two contract offers from Team Sunweb and Alpecin-Fenix, neither of them teams I had targeted earlier, so it's all going to work out.
So, maybe it does work, but you need to be patient.
