Tour of Eritrea - Stage 6
Tour of Eritrea

Stage 6

Stage Profile

The sixth and final stage in Eritrea. Pinot continues to lead, after his win on Stage 3. The last two stages have seen breakaways take the win and the favourites finishing together. As such, there have not been any major changes in the standings. Today's stage can change all that. A stage favouring the punchers, with one big climb a little distance past the half-way mark, gives an opportunity to the punchers who are still within striking distance of the top. Can Pinot hold on to his lead or will someone snatch the victory away on this last stage?

Some familiar names form the break of the day, as the peloton settles in for a bumpy ride.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov (GC 9'39", KOM 8th), Berard (GC 6'13" )
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco (GC 5'40", KOM 7th), Haavardsholm
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/mck.png Habtemichael (KOM 10th)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/cen.png Signorini

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov wins the first KOM sprint, ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/mck.png Habtemichael.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov wins the next KOM sprint as well. The order behind is reversed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco wins the first intermediate sprint uncontested ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Berard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov.

100 km left. The pack speeds up as the gap hits 3'30"+.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov wins the third KOM sprint as well. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/mck.png Habtemichael and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco pick up the rest of the points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/mck.png Habtemichael is dropped from the break on the Cat. 2 climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Haavardsholm follows suit as he can't keep up.

The pack is down to 91 riders. All stage and GC favourites are in this group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov attack the break as the peloton close in behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/cen.png Signorini catches the attackers on the climb. The others dropped from the break have been caught.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/cen.png Signorini wins the KOM sprint, ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Berard is next, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Cherkasov takes the final point from the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco wins the next intermediate sprint. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/cen.png Signorini is 2nd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov is 3rd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Berard has been caught in no man's land since the last climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Besada is the first of the bigger names to have been dropped by the pack.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/trg.png Cort Nielsen suffers a puncture at a very bad time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Bravo is now dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/trg.png Cort Nielsen would recover make it back to the pack, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Bravo wouldn't.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov wins the 5th KOM sprint with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco in 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/cen.png Signorini 3rd. Their lead is less than a minute over the pack.

8 riders now dropped including pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Roux and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Campero.

The peloton would slow down and the above dropped group would make it back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Kwiatkowski is he first on the offensive, with an attack with 12 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Roux is dropped again with 8 km remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Kwiatkowski is caught.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Roux would rejoin the peloton with 3 km left.

Just a kilometer to go, and no further attacks have been made. The peloton stands 45 riders strong.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Kwiatkowski is at the front with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/epc.png Molard closest. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/trg.png Cort Nielsen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bia.png Hardy are just beyond that.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Roux and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Campero are dropped again!

300 meters to go. Looking ahead from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Squire. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Chaves vs pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/trg.png Cort Nielsen at the front. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Kwiatkowski is slipping back a bit. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Kiserlovski is going for it. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Pinot and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/epc.png Molard behind them and then it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ptm.png Giogieri.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/trg.png Cort Nielsen leads us into the final 100 meters. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Chaves is next to him. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Kwiatkowski is holding on to 3rd.

It's still the same situation with 50 meters left.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/trg.png Cort Nielsen wins the final stage in Eritrea. He edges out the stage favourite pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Chaves.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nvo.png Kwiatkowski does hold his 3rd place. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/bnz.png Kiserlovski does well to finish 4th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Squire is 14th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Panayatov and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nrh.png De Vos complete the first group, after which there's a gap till the next riders arrive.

Today's winner - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/trg.png Magnus Cort Nielsen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/trg.png Cort Nielsen pushes himself up to 4th in the final GC. The Top 3 retain their positions, meaning pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Pinot takes the win. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/eue.png Nibali and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/nrh.png Faiers complete the podium. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ptm.png Krieger just about keeps his Points jersey and takes it home. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/gcn.png Pinot and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/epc.png Molard finish on the podium. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Umerbekov jumps up to 2nd in the KOM standings after his day in the break today, but he can't displace pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/epc.png Molard from the top step. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Ricco climbs to 3rd today as well. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/eue.png Borisavljevic comfortably wins the U25 classification despite losing time today. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/ahe.png Adastra usurps pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/esc.png Eddie Stobart at the top of the Teams standings, taking the win.
