Team Discovery at Tour de France
cmfos
here's a nice preview of the Disco boys for the TdF:

https://www.velonews.com/race/int/arti...498.0.html

Mr. Levi4Life will be happy to see that they are going with Leipheimer as their leader. I also hope that Levi can pull through to the podium but he hasn't had that level of success yet at the TdF so I'm still going with the Kazakstana guys in Paris!

I still can't get my head around Noval being there. Vaitkus is debatable, but Noval?

I'd much rather take McCartney or even Rubiera. heck, Devolder or White. others also come to mind. but ANOTHER reasonable climber? why??

can someone present to me a reasonable justification for his presence other than the others not being in form?

I am also puzzled. Maybe it was preference for contador and martinez to have another spaniard. Maybe they recently had a big investment by a spanish company and they were told to take more spanish riders? im a bit surprised they didnt take Devolder, i like him and i think he could do well.

Stijn Devolder is in great climbing form. the stage in Switzerland that Schleck won, Devolder pulled the chase group so hard that Cunego fell of.

I agree with your collective assessment of Devolder in that he did very well in the Tour de Suisse. Perhaps it's a matter of grand tour experience. Does Devolder have any? Being a classics man, perhaps he hasn't ridden in the Tour de France before.

don't know much about Noval although overall, Discovery looks pretty strong this year.

yes i agree they look very strong, with Contador (in my opinion) going to ease the white jersey.

it must be the second best climbing team after Astana, obviously if no more of Astana's team members get done for doping, like Kessler, because he would have worked hard in the mountians

I think Caisse have a strong team.

Smoothie, you'd think Caisse were strong if they decided to run the Tour rather than cycle Grin

Don't think that lepheimer is strong to get a podium spot on this year of Tdf

Actually I think they'd do better to take someone who can relay for a long time on flat terrain, as Ekimov and Padrnos used to do. speaking of which...why not Padrnos?

those guys were the unsung heroes of the Lance team. no team can defend a lead without those guys.

especially when a grand tour's profile is similar to this years Vuelta. actually, it doesn't have to be that extreme. this year's vuelta is insane...

I agree. Caisse are looking strong. not as strong as CSC, Discovery and Astana, though. nor Rabobank if Boogerd is in form.

So was I!
Sorry Sad
I also think Valverde does have a chance this year - if he manages to hold it together for the whole Tour - top 3 should definitely be in his sights

we all saw what an insane tour does (giro 06) i dont think this type of endless mountain stages is good for cycling because cyclist will want to win them and they will dope for a good result I think a big tour with 4-5 mountain stages is perfect and 3 ITT

In my opinion the favourite of this year is vino he has a strong team excluding kessler Pfft (he has other doped ciclists Pfft) it should be easy Pfft

Noval is a big guy and easy to draft off. I believe that is why he was picked up by discovery during Lance's day.

I think Danielson or Devolder whould be much better then Noval
And Rubiera instead of Vaiktus one more climber on the team more chances of levi to do something

I've never even once seen him at the front of the peloton.

he seems to be perpetually in motion fetching bottles.

except last year when he was catering Azevedo AND ONLY Azevedo. he was standing still a few times. but never relaying...

my main gripe is that they didn't pick someone to relay on the flat. the kind of work that , for instance, T-Mobile's Grabsch does incredibly well. riding very fast for very long.

devolder doesn't want to ride the tour.
his goal is to achieve a podium spot in the vuelta.
next year he wants to participate in the tour
