Tour Down Under - Stage 2
roturn
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0001.jpg

The 2nd stage sees a much easier profile with no tough hills despite not being pan flat neither.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/itd.png Degenkolb the obvious favourite on paper and after his first stage win. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/eur.png Lo Cicero, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/del.png Guarnieri and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/des.png Zabel did good as well and must be watched while others have to higher their efforts.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0002.jpg

While the peloton did not really allow a break to form until the first sprint, it still was a breakaway attempt to get the points.
Weiss for newly created CT team McCormick ahead of Pushpakumora and Gate. So a CT/A decision.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0004.jpg

Those three later also are part of the 4+1 breakaway, which then are allowed to open a 2min gap.

Last though was in between both groups and never made it.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0011.jpg

Early catch in general. With 56km to go they are caught again and the peloton has another sprint left for additional bonus seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0013.jpg

This time they didn`t let another attack steal it.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/mck.png Holloway, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/kmm.png Cavendish and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/sct.png Ciolek is the order here and gain important seconds, which were lost yesterday.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0016.jpg

Other sprinters saved their energy for the upcoming finale 10-20km later and today the organization looks a lot better with more sprinters in a good position.
We kind of see 4-5 sprint trains here of which only 2 1/2 can be counted properly as Europcar in the top position is bringing Lo Cicero into a good position and also Delvaux for Guarnieri are 3 riders in a row.

Kraftwerk only having one rider ahead of Cavendish, same for Degenkolb on the right side a bit behind while cycleYorkshire might have 3 riders but not sure it is supposed to be a train really with Bellis in the middle and neither made for such flat sprints.

Kreder taking over being the stronger leadout it seems in comparison to the Europcar guys. Guarnieri just behind him.
Lay/Modolo still there but Lo Cicero with a small gap behind and several other sprinters behind (Holloway, Manninen and new also Gaviria/Vanderbiest).

Kraftwerk with Willwohl also going strong for Cavendish where Vantomme/Ciolek and Enger decide to follow.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0040.jpg

Not the best position for Degenkolb really. The Ochre Jersey is in 20th position only and really would need to move up soon as we hit the final 2km.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0042.jpg

800m and Lo Cicero accelerates. Apparently waiting a bit longer did work as Guarnieri looking more exhausted on the other side.

But then again it`s still 800m and this sees Holloway/Ciolek/Manninen/Gaviria in a good position. The German somehow switched over from the far right to the far left side of the road.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0046.jpg

300m and now Lo Cicero also exhausts and all others move faster than him!

Holloway though with the biggest motor storms towards the stage win with Manninen following. Then lots of riders on the same line.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C1/TdU/mg19_tdu_02_PCM0051.jpg

It was close. Very close!
But in the end Holloway was able to hold on to celebrate a big win for the new CT team. For himself it`s a nice repeat of last years success on the 2nd stage as well!

Manninen as 2nd also with a big result while Ciolek showing up nicely as 3rd ahead of rising star Gaviria in 4th, who surely hopes for a more consistent season.

Cavendish in 5th aheadof Zabel and Guarnieri, who couldn`t go as high as yesterday but still collecting more bonus seconds and as Lo Cicero 12th and Degenkolb 13th didn`t get any today, this is even better for them.

The GC sees Holloway moving up into the lead with Degenkolb, Guarnieri and Zabel following closely but in total 21 riders already with bonus seconds and the hardest stages are yet to come but 30s is already a decent puffer to the puncheurs.
