A huge early break went away early on containing Roux, Eisel, Wielinga, Klimov, Capecchi, Lagutin, Deroo, Reihs, Wellens, Lalouette, Kruijswijk, Tschopp, Garcia Rincon, Di Maggio, Sartasov, Pecharroman, and Van Heerden. But they were caught on the first ascent of the Mur de Huy.

It took the 35km until we reached the Mur again until any more attacks came. This time it was a stronger group ogf 6: Grivko, Lopez Garcia, Rabon, Kroon, Barredo and Anza.

They were allowed to pull away although they dropped Rabon before the top of the Mur and the Czech rider would not rejoin them.

With 45km to go, the break holds a 1'44 advantage as Kessler, Ricco, Cobo, Sinkewitz and Bettini try to attack

It is wasted move and no ground is made. With 38km to go, Sinkewitz and Ricco attack again, this time with the company of Boogerd and Sanchez G.

They get a small 20-30 second advantage

When we get to the next hill 10km later, their small gap is still there as the Luxembourg duo of Kim Kirchen and Frank Schleck attack

This coincides with Boogerd and Sanchez G attacking away from Ricco and Sinkewitz, who are then swept past by the Luxembourgers

As they head towards the Cote de Ben Ahin they have 50 seconds on Ricco and a further 35 seconds on the peleton which still contains the likes of Di Luca, Schumacher, Cunego, Rodriguez Oliver and Valverde.

And perhaps fed up of always being the La Gazetta number 2, Cunego attacks aswell!

Di Luca can only reach the back wheel of Kroon, who has been dropped from the lead group - while Cunego gets a little bit further, but not much

Sanchez G. has been in this position before. In Season 1, he and Schleck led in the run in and he tried to attack away but that failed and he faded to 9th as Schleck won. This year, he attacks at this point again and will hope that this time, it will work

And then Boogerd leaps away as the sprint begins - not contempt with just winning Amstel Gold in his retirement year - is he going for the Ardennes triple?
