2019| going into it's eigth season since being formed (formerly known as the oz cycling project), bennelong - mitchelton remains the premium cycling squad in oceania. for the first time in it's history, the team was built from an 100% oceanian base last season and keeping the same sponsors (in a slightly new design) for another year, this approach will stay the same for the upcoming 2019 campaign - the team's fifth year on protour level.
coming off another solid season (finishing 11th in the team's ranking for the second time in our history) with stage wins at la vuelta and le tour and the a gc win at vuelta a pais vasco, the management finally wants to make the protour's top-10 for the first time. given the oceanian focus, this goal won't be easy to achieve, but we're totally focussed and optimistic.
2020 | another 11th place in the protour's ranking and yet another year, in which we try to attack the top-10.. staying with the same colors, staying with the same leaders.. staying with the same "just outside the top-10 of the protour" result? well, obviously, we don't hope so. stay aussie. stay tuned.
2021 | another 11th place.. but a change of colors and focus may finally lead us into the long awaited top-10... be ready for some significant changes this year!
2022 | no more 11th place.. but relegation! the significant changes appeared to be disastrous and we're back in the pct for the first time since promoting to pt in 2014..
2023 | 11th somehow stays a magic number, as we promote back to protour in our 11th season! a dominating pct campaign brought us back to where we wanted to go. it won't be easy to stay there as a newly promoted team, that lost an aging sam bewley, who had been one of the keys to promotion in 2022! but of course we will work hard to achieve this goal of staying protour.

as for the currently held free agency, it was always going to be a rather quiet year for bennelong and with four deals confirmed earlier today, the biggest targets could be landed almost unchallenged. surely not the 'shiniest' transfer season for bennelong, but the management is happy to welcome the first two riders to our permanent roster for the upcoming season (the other signings will spend the year as loanees - probably on ct level - and will be introduced later).
timothy roe
timothy roe is one of those guys, who had been on the team's wishlist for quite a while and his rather surprising free agency 'move' was good news for bennelong and particularly our manager. after spending the 2016 season as a loanee for us, it's some kind of a comeback for roe, who signed a permanent deal this time though. his experience and solid stage racing package should add some depth to the team, that grows his focus on mountains with lachlan morton and jack haig amongst the very key riders. it's not the 'big deal' like leigh howard joining us last season, but we're proud to have him back, where he belongs - to fair conditions as well.

marcus culey can be considered as a late bloomer, who makes his professional debut as an 26 years old. the aussie was quite impressive in the local cycling scene though and so he moved into the focus for bennelong' scouting machine. he will spend his premier year as a neo-pro with our protour equipe and will certainly gain that experience, that he missed so far. culey promises to become a strong roleur, who is capable of working hard on flat and long stages.

as announced a few days ago, bennelong - mitchelton not only added two riders to their permanent roster for the season, but also two young talents, who will spend their neo-pro seasons in the ct on loan deals.
michael storer on loan to bianchi - campagnolo
michael storer was reported to be our manager's primary goal for the off-season and so we're proud to announce his signing. the young aussie promises a quite interesting allround package, that could see him go in different directions for his further career. a strong climber, who handles both long and short climbs, as well as looking good on the tt bike. it should be some exciting first years for storer, who may not know the direction, that he will eventually go, yet. just like our staff, who is simply looking forward to what his first season in the ct (joining bianchi - campognolo) will bring. we spent some extra money to provide the best possible experience and training program for his debut season.

alexander evans on loan to bianchi - campagnolo
alexander evans is another promising climber, who may not be as 'flashy' as storer, but who showed a lot of potential in his past couple of years. performing pretty well on the tougher circuits in the australian national road series, evans certainly comes with a nice skillset for tough climbs and stage races. we are just excited about this signing as with storer and we're happy to see him also lining up for bianchi - campognolo as a loanee this year.

in other news, a few more of our talents will leave the team for (another) year as loanees: callum scotson (swisslion) and ryan christensen (delvaux) will spend their seasons in the pct, gaining some important experience on a challenging level. ben o'connor (glanbia food) and lucas hamilton (dk zalgiris) will ride in the ct, where they will hopefully continue to show glimpses of the talent, that we see in them. hamilton, who's said to be one of our manager's personal favorites, will receive the same 'special training program' like storer. after joining our team as a stagiare last season, that's certainly a nice boost of confidence for the promising climber.
with several bennelong riders spending the next season as loanees on other teams, we obviously needed to bring in some riders than "just" timothy roe and marcus culey. two riders will spend their year as loanees with bennelong - mitchelton and we're happy to give two promising lads from oceania the chance to gain some well needed experience on protour level.
nick schultz loaned in from bnz cycling
nick schultz joins us from bnz cycling, as the good relationship between those two teams continues for another year. schultz is quite an unique rider, who is set to become an allrounded climber for both mountains and hills. not the most explosive guy, who also lacks timetrial skills, but his secondary skillset promises to be special. he should get a lot of racedays and help both our premium climbers or puncheurs, whenever it's needed.

a rather quiet transfer season (in terms of free agent deals) came to end today, when bennelong - mitchelton signed it's final free agent.
nick miller
nick miller will be the fifth kiwi on this year's roster. the 28 years old climber already had been in talks with bennelong's development team jayco - mitchelton last season (when the management eventually decided to sign veteran climber mark o'brien though). after performing pretty well in new zealand's and australia's domestic cycling scene over the past years, bennelong finally offered him a contract now and while he probably won't stand out as a big scorer on this level, we're looking forward to what his allround climbing skills and quite aggressive racing attitude will contribute to a hopefully succesful season for the team.

michael hepburn & alexander edmondson joined podium ambition on a deal worth 650,000€
in addition to the already mentioned outgoing loanees, we also say goodbye to three riders, who left the team as part of permanent transfer deals. hepburn (picture above) and edmondson join the protour promoted podium ambition team, where they will meet one of australia's rising stars caleb ewan. particularly hepburn (who's best result was an 8th place in last year's praha - karlovy- praha) will be missed as part of our significally weakened tt(t) core, but the management felt like it would be time to shift our focus on other terrains this year.
zakkari dempster joined duolingo on a deal worth 350,000€
speaking of our weakened tt core, also dempster will ride in new colors this season. the 32 years old veteran will join duolingo on a permanent deal. maybe the more consistent performer than hepburn last season, his best result in 2018 still came "just" from a 13th place in the tour of qatar. but of course both mentioned timetrial specialists will be missed after their contribution to several succesful ttt results, including a 3rd place at the malmo - copenhagen ttt and a tour de france stage win.
The long-term investment in direct and in-direct support for regional rider development continues to provide the platform that enables this team to keep upping its game season after season. Something for us all to doff out caps to, and aspire towards!
TTT prowess is something hard-coded into the DNA here, so although some individual cogs have been removed from the machine, I expect the collective to continue humming along nicely.
Thanks for taking on Schreurs. and looking forward to seeing him with a leadership opportunity in the biggest races in the world PCM18's mid stage attacks could suit him well there.

our transfer season is finished, so it's time to get the similar important stuff done. planning the season is the key to any success, that we may or may not have in 2019. the schedule can be revealed now - it looks almost the same as last season.
after our success on pthc level (winning the vuelta a pais vasco, which is again our goal for the upcoming campaign, and a huge volta a portugal performance by particularly jack bobridge and rohan dennis) we didn't see much need to change our plan for this year. it won't be easy to repeat the points haul we got from those events last season, but it's worth a try with bobridge still being our most important rider.
to keep the pressure high, his performances at paris - nice and tour of tasmania (that we finally want to win after coming close several times) will once again define, whether we reached most of our goals or not. in addition to those three gc wins, we choosed the tour de france as a top-5 goal this time. it hasn't been our most succesful grand tour (as for gc results) in the past, but we managed to achieve our tdf goal (stage win) last season, which may be a good omen afterall.
and - again - we want to achieve the protour top-10 for the first time in our history. missing this goal as 11th last year was tough and with a few points already lost prior to the season (speaking of u25 results from jack haig, that won't be anymore in 2019), it will be once again a big challenge. let's get it on then!
