Switzerland is full of mountains, but they decided to hold their National Championship on a flat course.
Five amateurs in the lead chased down by some amateurs for Isostar. Marcel Wyss is not really a sprinter of the caliber Aregger or Page, so why?
The break is caught, and UBS goes for a different tactic by having Schäppi attack. It's not yet the final kilometer, twenty to go.
Schäppi would be caught, but the increased pace forced a split in the peloton with only 28 riders in the front group. All the sprinters are on the good side, it are mostly amateurs who are on the wrong side. Sauber come to the front with Taramarcaz, Chavanne and Aregger. Stocker in the wind already while Page is a bit further back still surrounded by teammates.
Aregger is released decently, giving Chavanne the opportunity to sprint for himself as well. Danilo Wyss on the inside, Page and Marcel Wyss behind the Saubers.
And it's Marcel Aregger who comes out on top! Very close sprint, in which Page finishes second ahead of Stocker and Chavanne.
The Swiss are known for their watches. Let's use one for this time trial championship.
Schir the first time to note down: 1h12'24. The wind is not in favor of the riders, so the times might not be the fastest.
The next riders from UBS and Sauber all fall short on this time.
Stocker starting off really strong, seventeen seconds ahead of Schir in the first section. He slows down a little bit but holds enough of an advantage to take the lead!
Stüssi with the same time at the first split, but he declines a bit more at the end. Six seconds behind for second place.
Cancellara still going strong. He posts the new best time, eleven seconds faster than Stocker.
Schär is seventeen seconds faster than Cancellara at checkpoint one. At the finish line it's 59 seconds, and only one rider remaining.
Reigning and defending champion Dillier is a league above the rest. He is much faster than Schär at every split, and is the only one below the one hour ten minutes mark.
Silvan Dillier is the Swiss Time Trial Champion once again.
