British National Road Race Championship

No typical British weather today for the British Championships. The sky looks clear and the puncheurs look forward to battling it out.

A wide variety of teams chasing the amateurs in the breakaway but the main effort comes from the local cycleYorkshire team. They catch the break with ten kilometers to go.

That work was for a good reason. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Bellis attacks at the foot of the climb. Following him are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ayu.png A. Yates, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Froome, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_nbw.png Dowsett, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bnz.png Edmondson, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bgc.png McEvoy, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_t3a.png S. Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gcn.png Cuming.

Bellis attacks again, this time only Froome can follow. Cuming drops back to the chasing group with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_iso.png Faiers and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_esc.png Appleby.

It will be a sprint between Bellis and Froome for the British title, the others are too far away into the final kilometer.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Chris Froome wins the British Road Race Championship! Bellis finishes second in a close sprint despite his team doing most of the work today.

Dowsett wins the sprint behind for third ahead of Edmondson. Simon Yates beats his twin brother Adam for fifth, with McEvoy in seventh. Faiers, Cuming and Appleby complete the top ten.

British National Time Trial Championship

cycleYorkshire missed the road race title, but they have two main contenders for the time trial victory in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Stannard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Tennant.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/NC/GBR/TT/01.jpg

Tennant the first of the two to start. Stannard will be the last, so we'll have to wait whether Tennant's 1h10'39 will stand.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_t3a.png Simon Yates the best of the Yates brothers, and also third overall. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_wcc.png Harrison second at nineteen seconds, though he was faster at the first checkpoint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/NC/GBR/TT/02.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vlv.png Tanfield comfortably beats the best time by 42 seconds. Did he just have a great time trial or is Tennant's time pretty slow?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/NC/GBR/TT/03.jpg

Probably a bit of both. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_iso.png Faiers goes on to smash Tanfield's time by over a minute with two riders remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/NC/GBR/TT/04.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gcn.png Burke lost a minute and two seconds to Faiers, five seconds ahead of Tanfield for second place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/NC/GBR/TT/05.jpg

And finally, Stannard. The first split shows the exact same time. Stannard loses one second in the second part, and one more second in the final part, thus falling two seconds short.

The new British Time Trial Champion is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_iso.png Thomas Faiers!
