New Team
mpritch
Would anyone be willing to help me create a new team? Here is my idea...

I want to play with the team on EXTREME difficulty. But, I want to hand pick my squad, with some obvious budget and sensibility guidelines.

I want to sign a very broad team (much like CSC). I want to compete in classics and stage races. But, the catch is, I want them to all be from within one country. I'd like all the riders to be, for example, Italian.

I will hire only from that country. I will recruit only in that country. I will train only in that country.

So what do I need help for?

What country do I pick?
Will someone help me name the squad?
Set up some basic guidelines (financial and skill based) for the squad? ---> remember I'll be racing on Extreme
Would someone be willing to design a team kit? (confession: This is a huge reason I want to do the new squad. I'd love to see a sharp new team kit out on the road.)

If this goes as well as I hope, I will transfer this post and the resulting posts to the stories forum and let all of you come along for the ride.

USA. Leipheimer for stage races. Hincapie for cobbles. Zabriskie for TTs. The Team should be the classic US postal. Money should be about the same as other PT teams.

That is totally possible. Although the scouting will be a huge disadvantage over most other countries. Germany, France, Spain and Italy all have a wider range of "rider abilities" to scout from. But, the challenge would be nice...

any ideas on a kit? or maybe someone to design that??

I quite like this one. This is from TDD's jerseys.

Well, after reading Matt's post, I just had a revelation and thought, "He should re-create Fassa Bortolo!" ..until I reread the part about wanting all the riders to be of the same nationality. You'd only get the Italian sprinters, that way; no Flecha, no Kirchen, no Cancellara. Hmm. Maybe not a good idea after all. The U.S. Postal direction makes more sense, but if it were me, I'd pick Italy and go from there.

Also, will all of your staff be, presumably, of the same nationality? Sometimes I find it hard to find mythical or international-grade staff, depending on the nation I'm looking for.

gogo spain! that or it would be fun to see a french team aswell, although they kinda suck in everything

rontgen
Why not just play with Euskatel?

Wouldn't it be fun to make a French team and try to 'recreate' their success from the past? Despite being one of the largest cycling nations they haven't really had any success for years - so that's a possibility. There's also a lot of scouting material there.

I'm not totally sold on the firefox jersey. The nationality is fun to discuss, but there are real advantages for using any one of the ones suggested. For me, it is going to depend on someone who can develop a kit that works best. Anyone? I love the white of the Garmin-Chipotle uniforms and have always liked FDJ's.

I'm not doing euskatel partly becuase they already exist, and mainly because i can't stand them.

I will hire only trainers, doctors, scouts from the country picked. So USA is again not looking too good.

France has been my favorite all along...

I have to say France too. Even the cheese eating surrender monkeys needs some love once in a while.

Nothing personnel but i wont read the story if it is French. It is a long feud.

no offense taken.

i can relate to the feeling. i nearly threw up when rontgen suggested euskatel.

looks like france is pulling into the lead on this one. I will spend some time looking through the db's and seeing how france is represented failry, and begin to compile a rough draft on a roster.

but, if there is a compelling case made for spain, italy, or germany... i will listen. the good thing about france is that they aren't very good. italy or spain, for example, could feasibly win every major race if i rode them properly...

AN my opinion it would be a lot more fun with a smaller Country like Australia or Ukraine or other countries like that.

but absolutely impossible on extreme. if i do decide to do a lesser country, i would have to lower the difficulty to hard. on extreme you HAVE to have a strong team around even the greatest rider.

it would be fun...

France sounds interesting.. Aiming for success in Le Tour..
And as matt said, Australia also would be interesting.. Evans with help from riders like rogers, and a lot of sprinters.. Pfft

try to turn the german's eyes back to cycling, recreate a clean t-mobile
Nélson Évora, national hero!

mpritch
hmmm, i'm not too interested in recreating anything. more of making something new...

ok. i think this could go on forever. germany, france, usa, australia, ukraine, [gag]euskatel...

is there anyone who is willing to help this move forward by doing one of two things?
1) making a really sharp team kit
2) showing me where to learn how to make a really sharp team kit

i really appreciate all the replies so far.
