Who is going to win todays Milano Torino? Will there be a decision regarding the relegation fight of Carlsberg, Lierse and Netia? Will it become even closer towards the last events?
Carlsberg tried it in San Sebastian, Lierse and Netia follow here in Milano Torino and join the break for a surprise.
Van Aert
Cherkasov
Vermote
55km left and the gap is down to 3min again. Meiji is working quite a bit today alongside Kraftwerk and also Ayubowan.
Later also Indosat, Reddit, Fablok and others join in.
Already on the first climb, which is in the steepest section right now. Indosat`s Belmokhtar is chasing and already in sight of the breakaway, that was able to hold on.
Just 1,5km later though 2 of them are caught as Kinoshita starts with the first attack of the favourites.
Behind him Flügel being very attentive and also McCarthy and Anuar Aziz not far behind.
This obviously brings lots of others to accelerate as well such as Lutsenko, Ben Nasser, Froome, Schreurs, Betancourt, Prevar, Caruso, Juul-Jensen, Bystrom...Waeytens for now not really well placed and neither is Dyrnes, which could be a chance for Carlsberg to close the gap?
Kinoshita, Flügel and McCarthy have a small gap with Lutsenko and Anuar Aziz follow 14s later. Then 28s to the "peloton" of 27 riders.
Missing in there are all those badly placed riders such as Waeytens and Dyrnes or Boily and Serry. They will come back a bit later but need to spend more energy to move past those 27.
9km and we see lots of action behind.
Schreurs/ Ben Nasser were first to attack.
Behind them a group of 7 including:
Froome
Betancourt
Izagirre
Prevar
Juul-Jensen
Caruso
Bystrom
Then with another gap it`s now Waeytens also waking up and following. In front of him former break rider Vermote dropping back.
While Lutsenko was able to join the first group, Anuar Aziz is struggling and solo with 3,6km to go and just ahead of the last climb.
Similar scenario a group back where the group of 7 made contact to Schreurs/Ben Nasser and now being solo chased by Waeytens.
Chances are there that all groups might come back together on the climb as gaps are small.
That said not looking good for Netia as Dyrnes is still further behind in the peloton as also Boily, Serry and many others.
Back to the front. Kinoshita again from the first position but as he accelerates and no one is able to follow, he has a small gap. Meanwhile McCarthy in trouble having a gap of 10s but still 22s ahead of Anuar Aziz.
Close to the Flamme Rouge though, the Australian has found back and is next to Lutsenko now. Still advantage Kinoshita though.
Behind the group of 9 did split and apparently it`s Bystrom, Juul-Jensen and Caruso being strongest, which is a small surprise seeing that the likes of Schreurs, Froome, Betancourt are stronger on paper.
Waeytens therefore has made contact to those riders.
600m and the Japanese seems to have it in the bag.
Behind him Lutsenko has gapped Flügel/McCarthy and might be the last danger for Meiji.
And actual the gaps between them and Anuar Aziz and also to Juul-Jensen/Bystrom/Caruso has become smaller. So changes are still possible.
Juul-Jensen on fire. He is pulling and almost behind Anuar Aziz now. Bystrom being right behind him. This could be vital points for Carlsberg and the Dane is not done yet trying to get as many as possible.
Kinoshita though takes the win. Surely being the strongest today with Lutsenko being next.
McCarthy with a good comeback outsprinting Flügel, who struggled in the end.
What a finish by Juul-Jensen. He completes the top5!
Also Bystrom did pass a totally exhausted Anuar Aziz in the end.
The Indosat leader has to pay for his attempt to chase the leading group solo in the end.
Caruso as 8th also with a decent result.
Ben Nasser beats Schreurs for the 9th spot.
Waeytens right behind them in 11th, which is better than previously but might not be enough with Juul-Jensen being stronger today and even more Netia having a gap already.
Froome as 14th todays biggest disappointment though while Dyrnes as 16th made a good comeback in the end but not enough for big points.
Relegation wise it looks like Carlsberg and Lierse have almost equal scores now and both close a bit on Netia. Maroc and then Japan as final race needs to be the decision.
