Quite a bit pf action in the early kilometers with 5 riders first allowed to get away, but then chased down rapidly.
Teuns was having trouble hanging on to the pack and his team dropped back, along with a few other riders.
Just a single rider got away; Quispe forming the break of the day and settling in for lonely ride.
He off course won the first intermediate sprint. Krasnov and Von Hoff picked up bonus seconds and points from the pack.
The Teuns group finally made it back.
Quispe won the only KOM climb of the day, confirming the jersey for himself overnight. Nizzolo and Olei were the others to take points.
Quispe was caught before the second intermediate sprint with 32 kilometers to go.
Krasnov picked up further bonification seconds and points by winning the second intermedaite sprint. Wippert and Mezgec followed him past the line.
The pace increased as we passed the intermediate sprint point.
Sauber, Oberfranken and Swisslion are driving the peloton onwards as we enter the final 10 kilometers.
Sauber have disappeared from the front as it is Swisslion and Oberfranken at the front now.
A split in the pack with 4 kilometers to go. No sprinters have been caught in the split but several punchers are here who could've used the uphill finish to their advantage, Teuns, Zeisler and Sepulveda to name a few.
We have trains! Oberfranken leading out Geschke, with Sauber on their tail. Swisslion are trying to use their numerical advantage to muscle past Krasnov. The pace-makers have moved over to the right side.
Bit of chaos as we enter the final kilometer. Oberfranken have riders with Geschke, but he's lost his leadout Grosser's wheel. Krasnov is the one who's taking advantage of the same. Korzh is coming up strong.
More riders have been dropped out the back, including Thorsen.
700 meters remaining. The pack have closed the gap to the front line. Grosser is at the front. Von Hoff and Reza are the fastest right now.
500 meters. Grosser is still at the front and is effectively leading out Krasnov. Nizzolo and Habtom have up a long way in 200 meters.
Everyone squeezes to the inside line with 300 meters left. Nizzolo is up to 3rd now as he boxes in Geschke. Cimolai is a new threat for the stage win.
Nizzolo is getting closer to Grosser with every pedal stroke. The former is now level with Krasnov.
Nizzolo is past and leading. Grosser is out of energy and cannot keep up any longer. Geschke has found a gap and is challenging for the win again. Kireva and Hacecky have come up a long way and into contention all of a sudden.
It's Nizzolo from Geschke with less than 100 meters remaining. Reza challenging for third place.
Wow! That is a close finish. It is nearly impossible to declare a winner without checking the replay!
Reza comes through in 3rd with a super-fast finish. Krasnov and Mezgec complete the Top 5. Grosser, Kireva,
Cimolai, Gatto and Von Hoff make up the rest of the Top 10.
The decision is in and it is Simon Geschke walking to the podium to pick up the stage winner's and GC leader's trophies. That's a really tough call for Nizzolo!
Today's winner - Simon Geschke
Geschke takes the photo finish stage victory to take the lead in the race. He also leads the Points standings. Quispe takes the KOM jersey uncontested, and the U25 jersey. Top favourite for the Stage 4 ITT, Miles Olman, was dropped in the run-in, which is a huge blow to his GC chances.
