Barbados Cycling Festival - Stage 4
Vien
Barbados Cycling Festival – Stage 4

After three stages, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_del.png Guarnieri is probably the rider with the biggest smile on his face. As he's leading the GC in Barbados with just one stage to go! Or is it nervousness? As pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_npn.png Holloway, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Cavendish, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Guerao and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_itd.png Degenkolb aren't out of contention yet, either.

Today's stage is probably the most average one of the Barbados Cycling Festival, 187 kilometers and some hills, but mainly at the start of the stage. But with so many riders still looking to prove themselves, this stage likely won't be without any “average” incidents!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0034.jpg

So let's jump right into the coverage, shall we? There's a larger break today, 8 riders of teams that are probably a bit fed up with their sprinter and look for daily success this way:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_wcc.png Vandousselaere
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Errazkin
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cdb.png Nolf (KoM leader)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Van Zandbeek
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_min.png Marcos
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Stannard
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Nechita
and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_lpu.png Biermans.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0019.jpg

No Dunbar in the break, so pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cdb.png Nolf has secured his KoM jersey! But he still enjoys winning both of the reamining sprints.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0020.jpg

Historically, breaks have been quite successful in final stages of tours. Not this time, though. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_wcc.png Vandousselaere is the final rider to get caught with 20 kilometers to go. It's sprint time once again!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0021.jpg

And it seems like we're back to the same situation as stages 1 and 2: Kraftwerk gong full steam ahead, while all other sprinters join pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Cavendish''s wheel in this order:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_nvo.png Vantomme
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Guerao
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_t3a.png Ewan
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_itd.png Degenkolb
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Vanderbiest
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Saber
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cdb.png Appollonio
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Mohs
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_del.png Guarnieri.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0022.jpg

One important rider is missing from this, GC's #2 pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_npn.png Holloway! And he's very far in the back of the peloton, though the radio didn't mention a flat tyre or anything. What is he doing?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0023.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Mohs decides to shake things up and passes the train with 1,5 kilometers to go!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0024.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Cavendish manages to jump to him and drags pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_nvo.png and Vantomme
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Guerao with him. It seems like one of these four will win the stage!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0025.jpg

300 meters to go, Mohs is tired and this one will be between Cavendish and Guerao! Who will clinch victory today?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0026.jpg

It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Guerao! After his stage 1 win he's doing it again! What a great race by ths normally quite inconsistent sprinter.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Cavendish has to leave the race without any stage wins but still earns himself another second spot.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0027.jpg

Vantomme got caught on the line, which means that Vanderbiest and Ewan were able to beat him for third and fourth. So Vantomme has to settle with fifth. Saber, Guarnier, Appollonio, Degenkolb (at least he tried!) and Mohs complete the top 10.

Not the best results for Guarnieri and Degenkolb then. Guarnieri may have lost his GC win today, even though Holloway was nowhere to be seen. Degenkolb couldn't repeat yesterday's performance and likely will only manage a top 10 here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0028.jpg

So back to the stage winner, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Guerao. But the big question is, will he be allowed to step on the podium to celebrate a GC victory? Or will it be someone else?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0029.jpg

And the answer: After a few seconds behind the curtains pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Guerao appears again as the winner of the Barbados Cycling Festival!!! Certainly a surprise winner, the Spanish rider won two stages and benefit from many other riders having at least one bad day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_del.png Guarnieri has to be happy with second, though. Even though the two (!) seconds he's behind Guerao may sting. Still a great points haul for the CT team.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Cavendish just couldn't finish off the great leadout he's gotten and finishes third. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_npn.png Holloway didnt show up today and drops to fourth in the GC.

Despite being quite invisible, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_t3a.png Ewan ends up in fifth, in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Vanderbiest. And then we finally get the pre-race favourite pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_itd.png Degenkolb. A dreadful result for him, but at least he got a stage win from this race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Saber, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_nvo.png Vantomme and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_del.png Kreder finish off the top 10. The last name certainly is a surprise. Even more to celebrate at Delvaux' HQ!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0030.jpg

The points GC is a little bit different, however. This time it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_del.png Guarnieri on the top step of the podium, ahead of Guerao and Cavendish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0031.jpg

And as announced, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cdb.png Nolf wins the KoM ranking with else.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0032.jpg

The U25 GC is for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_t3a.png Ewan, as expected. Only Arashiro, Areruya and Errazkin were also able to grab some bonification seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Barbados/4/PCM0033.jpg

And Netia won the team GC for some reason.

And that's the end of this year's Barbados Cycling Festival. We've seen four interesting sprints with three different winners, and the only rider who won twice also grabbed the GC. It may not be the most interesting race on the calendar, unless you are a fan of a sprinter of course, but these results will probably give a lot of managers the chance to look at their sprinters, as well as their trains, and change things up for the next edition. We hope to see you back next week and hope you will have a wonderful time at our beaches!
