The decisive stage, as tomorrow should be a formality. Seventeen kilometers up Yakima Peak, individually.
The three main favorites lining up for their start. Yates starts at with a 25-second deficit. Talansky coming after him, then Valls. We will monitor their rides extensively today, as the final battle for the GC in a thrilling race.
When they start their rides, Ockeloen has the fastest time at exactly 36 minutes. Lundberg second at 15 seconds, Frankiny third at 17.
Ivanov takes the fastest time off Ockeloen by sixteen seconds.
Manfredi takes another fifteen seconds off that time. He will jump a few riders in the GC, since the riders right after him set worse times.
Eastman arriving at the split, ahead of the three main protagonist. He is the fastest rider halfway up the climb so far, one second ahead of Berhane.
Yates is 38 seconds slower, quite a big gap actually as it's not in the current top ten.
Then Talansky, who does considerably better. Only ten seconds behind Eastman.
Valls needs to ride the same time or better. He does not, thirteen seconds. Talansky the virtual leader by three seconds over Valls and 53 over Yates. The race is not over yet, though I think Yates is out of the battle. Talansky versus Valls in the final eight kilometers!
Back to the front, where the top fifteen makes its way to the finish. Parra Bustamente posts only the thirteenth time at 50 seconds from Manfredi. Teammate Lemus Davila rode five seconds slower, so his fifteenth spot is save.
Hoem with a worse time. He had 33 seconds on Parra Bustamente in the GC but is 36 seconds slower on the stage. Thus Parra Bustamente rises one place in the GC, and Hoem drops one.
De Marchi needs nineteen seconds to overtake Eyob. His time is a 36'14, which is ninth place at the line.
Eyob is only marginally slower, 36'17. He defends his GC place and the young rider jersey. Henao did manage to ride this stage nine seconds faster but the difference in the classification was three minutes.
One of the most active attackers in the race, with hilly stages as his kryptonite: Suaza. He shows his talents as climber, setting a new best time of 35'13.
With that time he beats Squire in the GC, thus entering the top ten. The American only had five seconds advantage but lost over a minute.
Sepulveda can climb and time trial, except he doesn't show his combination today: he would finish even behind Squire in thirtieth place, losing to both Suaza and Squire in the GC to finish eleventh there.
Anacona comes closest to Suaza's time so far, but has to concede fifteen seconds for virtual second place.
Sixth place so far for Atapuma at 38 seconds from his teammate. He lost his seventh place in the GC to Anacona by five seconds.
Next at the finish we expect Koshevoy, except he's been overtaken by Berhane two-thirds up the climb. So the Eritrean is at the finish first, and beats Suaza by eighteen seconds. 34'55 the time to beat.
Koshevoy might still be tired from yesterday's epic ride. He's allowed to lose a lot of time, as he had a huge gap to the riders behind and comfortably takes sixth place overall.
Eastman was one second faster than Berhane at the intermediate. GPS data showed them as exactly equal at one point. He gives it everything, but unfortunately Berhane beats him by one second. The American wore the yellow jersey for a long time and was set to win the race, except it all went downhill in the final week. Now he has to settle for fourth place.
Yates knows his time is not good enough to win. Ninth place at 1'07, though it will turn to eleventh after Talansky and Valls cross the line.
Americans celebrate as their boy Talansky crosses the line. It's not the fastest time of the day, 35'26 is the fourth time and a good throw at the overall victory. The crowd seems certain Valls won't beat that given the split times.
Here comes Valls... 35'18! The Spaniard turns it around in the second part to go from three seconds behind from eight seconds ahead! The American spectators' cheers are quickly turned into disappointment and crying.
Natnael Berhane wins his third stage, and the second in-row for World Cycling Centre. Eastman second by a mere second, Suaza third at eighteen seconds.
Rafael Valls leads the GC by eight seconds on Talansky and 1'09 on Yates. The GC might be considered done and dusted, but there are bonus seconds on the intermediate sprints and the finish tomorrow, and the possibility of splits and mechanicals. Will the Podium Ambition team pull every trick in the book to get the jersey?
