Numbers one and two in the KoM classification, Riesebeek and Mendes, would have set their eyes on the mountain sprints but they are in trouble on an early category two climb, picking up no points. Robov emerges as new face, taking this sprint and the two surrounding category four climbs, to overtake Mendes for second.

The final consists of two climbs: HC Snow Peak and Cat1 Horseshoe Mountain. No snow at Snow Peak when the three leaders cross the top: Claerebout, Camargo and Robov. The favorites decide to wait for the final climb to attack, Azteca keeping the pace up as usual. Shushemoin and Ockeloen getting closer to the front, picking up former members of the breakaway. Three minutes from E1 to P.

Claerebout a master descender apparently, as he manages to take a minute over Camargo and Robov. Another minute behind are Agnoli and Feng, then 35 seconds to Bookwalter, Jim, Ockeloen, Shushemoin. The peloton at six minutes from Claerebout, taking no risks in the descent. Breakaway victory?

Azteca, Kulczyk and WCC roll on, catching the Shushemoin group with six kilometers to go and reducing the gap to Claerebout to only 2'30. Robov rode away from Camargo, but he's not getting closer to the Luxembourgian.

It would get better for them, as Suaza makes it a 1-2! Yates third for the final bonus seconds, Valls fourth, Berhane fifth. Depending on Eastman's loss, Valls might become the new race leader.

Sixth place for Manfredi ahead of Anacona and Atapuma. Talansky ninth with a slight gap, losing nearly a minute to Valls and Yates.
