Deutschland Tour - Stage 3
Vien
Deutschland Tour – Stage 3

Ladies and Gentlemen, or better said Meine Damen und Herren, we have reached the halfway points of the Deutschland Tour. But more importantly, we have also reached the 26.5-kilometer time trial which will very likely decide the top spots of the final podium! It's going to be a fun one for the time trialists, even though a lot of them lost time in stage 1 already and can only hope for a stage win. As for the sprinters, including GC leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_itd.png Degenkolb, it's all about damage control of they want to end with a good GC spot.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Coppel is the favourite to win today by far. Many riders are trying to beat him, or become the best of the rest. This includes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_tti.png Yatsevich and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Durbridge, who are given the highest chance to do so by the bookies.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0049.jpg

The first time trialist to finish is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Robert. He sets the time to beat at 34'26.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0050.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gzl.png Gretsch shows this time shouldn't be underestimated. He loses 1'21 on Robert!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0051.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Stannard can't beat his teammate, but is only 11 seconds behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0052.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_tti.png Yatsevich however shows what a better time trialist can do. He beats Robert's time 16 seconds and is now leading with a time of 34'09!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0053.jpg

Teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_tti.png Dal Col loses 27 seconds on him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0054.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_hug.png Gonzalez Salas gets close to Yatsevich' time on the first split, a sign that his time is beatable. But he just falls short at the finish line: 7 seconds, to be exact!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0055.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Sagan's performance deserves a mention too: Fourth for now, only 25 seconds behind Yatsevich!

It still gives the feeling like many top time trialists can beat Yatsevich today, but we'll have to wait and see...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0056.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bgc.png Balloni gets dangerously close too, 7 seconds...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0057.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_pum.png Sütterlin won't be setting a good GC result, though. He loses 41 seconds on Yatsevich and is already 41 seconds behind.. Sad day for him and Puma.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0058.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gnr.png Sterbini then? He does have the fastest time on the split!

Yes! 34'05 is the new best time, a 4-second improvement!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0059.jpg

'We've now reached the group of riders who are less than a minute behind Degenkolb in the GC. And the first of them to set an interesting time is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_tti.png Vorobev. A very interesting time in fact... He's the first to break the 34-minute mark and sets a new best time of 33'45!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0060.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Goldstein gets close to him. Third for now, 22 seconds behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0061.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_eav.png Jungels also sets a decent time, +36 on Vorobev. He might enter the top 10, but we'll have to wait to see what the other riders do.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0062.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Viennet sets the same time as Jungels! +'36, quite a disappointment.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0063.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fes.png Vlatos then, one of the big guns. He does okay, 15 seconds behind Vorobev, but more should've been possible for him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0064.jpg

Same but even worse for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Schädlich. +'45...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0065.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Durbridge however doesn't disappoint! With 33'53 however, he misses out on Vorobev's time by 8 seconds. Still second!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0066.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gnr.png Kung +'40, though he might shoot up in the U25 ranking at least.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0067.jpg

At least he does better than pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bgc.png Van Winden. +'53 for him!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0068.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_eav.png Kittel sets the best time at the first checkpoint and looks to become the new leader... But no! He gets second by one second!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0069.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Brändle with a very decent +'23 then.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0070.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_eue.png Cornu tries to keep Euskaltel's PCT dreams alive and does fine, fourth for now, +'11.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0071.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gnr.png Viviani eas very slow at the first checkpoint (+'22) but managed to come back very well in the second part. 'He is now in fourth, 9 seconds behind Vorobev.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0072.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Coppel then... And well, what can you say? He smashes Vorobev's time by 37 seconds and sets a new best time of 33'07! Surely with mainly sprinters to go, this must be anough for the GC #1?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0073.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_afr.png Kwok finishes 47 seconds behind Coppel. Which might sound bad, but it's still a surprising sixth place for now!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0074.jpg

Ánd that was the final time trialist today. None of the sprinters set relevant results for the GC. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_itd.png Degenkolb closes the day and finishes 2'44 behind Coppel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0075.jpg

And that was the racing for today! As we can see Coppel on the podium, we can see the final resuls of the day: Behind Coppel, Vorobev, Kittel, Durbridge and Viviani complete the top 5.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0076.jpg

The top 10 of today is also almost the top 10 in the GC, with the exception of Sterbini, who was far behind in the GC. This means Brändle joins the top 10.

The best sprinter is Silvestre in 23rd. No chance for a good GC result for any of them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0077.jpg

GC #10 Goldstein also gets the U25 jersey. Though only eigth seconds behind, Kung might be looking for some bonification seconds to pass him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/PTHC/Deutschland/3/PCM0078.jpg

And that's it for today! Are we seeing the GC top 10 already, or will something special happen in the final two flattish stages? Who knows? I do! Ha!
