Yesterday's stage on the cobbles turned the table on its head once again as Bewley won the stage and became the new leader of the race. Howver, it is still close at the top, with the Top 6 separated by less than a minute and just over four and minutes separating the Top 15. The Time Trialists will come out to play today, and while none are quite in contention to lay a claim on the leader's jersey, they will want to make the best of their favoured terrain. In the GC race, Bew ley isn't the strongest against the clock, but he's no slouch either. However, there are better riders in the close enough to him to challenge for his jersey on today's stage. Will we see another lead change in this race?
Name TT Fiedler83 Dillier80 Dempster79 Goncalves78 Campenaerts78 Lammertink78 Dumoulin78 Hofer78 Bibby77 Boom77 Vangstad77 Van Baarle77 Turek77 Frison77 Oram77 Andersen77 O'Shea77 Verona77
O'Shea sets the first time of note. He clocks in at 14'40" in the first time check, 26'15" in the second and ends up with a time of 37'57".
Vlagren gives the Australian come tough competition throughout the run, being 3, 5 and 9 seconds slower than him at each time check.
Goncalves has a decent run, but he can't challenge the previous two with his time of 38'22".
Frison clocks in at third in both the intermediate time-checks, and then 3rd again at the finish, 15 seconds slower than O'Shea.
Delgerbayar with a good run, ending up 21 seconds slower than the fastest time, and in 4th place for the moment.
Hofer is just 5 seconds down on O'Shea at the first intermediate. Can he pull back that time over the rest of the course?
The answer is no, as he clocks in a time equal to Valgren, tying him for 2nd.
Wohler finishes 25 seconds slower than his teammate.
Dempster is 5 seconds down at the first split. He loses two more seconds int he second sector. He actually makes up time to O'Shea in the final sector but is still 5 seconds slower, putting him into 2nd place.
Lammertink is just a second off at the first time check.
He goes faster than O'Shea by 2 seconds at the next split.
Lammertink clocks the new fastest time - 37'51".
Vangstad is down 29 seconds after the first sector. He storms through the second sector to make up 16 seconds. He carries the same through to the finish to slot into 2nd.
Van Baarle with the new best time at the first check of 14'37". He carries his form through, clocking the best time at the second check, that of 26'9". He finishes with the new time to beat of 37'45".
As expected, Fiedler in a world of his own with the timings. He's 20 seconds faster than anyone else in the first intermediate, 27 seconds at the second, and a comfortable 52 seconds ahead at the finish! His time to beat is 36'52".
Danacik with a good ride to 5th place, clocking 37'59".
We now come to the riders with GC aspirations...
Watson is +2'55" slower.
Stage 2 winner Koretzky slower still, losing 3'30".
Claeys stops the clock 3'5" down.
Gastauer does much better but is still 2'17" down.
Bibby the best of the GC outsiders so far, losing 1'40", but putting himself into the Top 25 on the stage.
Kelderman down by 2'5".
Polanc posts the exact same time as Gastauer.
Gallopin is inside the two minute mark, losing 1'53".
Kwiatkowski just a second slower than Bibby, with a + 1'41". He goes past Kump on the road, with the latter ending up losing 3'50".
Kristoff averages out the previous duo, losing 2'39" on the stage.
Tsatevich with a big loss of 3'45".
Similarly Summerhill loses 3'49".
Arissol with a much better ride, down 2'11" at the finish.
Declerq is slower by 2'48".
The only GC contender who is a decent rider against the clock is defending champion Lars Boom. He rides smoothly throughout to post the 9th fastest time of the stage, 1'13" behind Fiedler.
Stallaert with a huge time loss of 4'42".
Trentin too loses big, 4'1".
Gerts is down by 2'58".
Potts loses 2'43".
Kruijswijk is a whole minute faster than his teammate, which puts him in a an excellent position to challenge for Bewley's jersey!
Van Avermaet loses ground in the podium race, being down 3'56" at the finish.
Wisniowski stops the clock 2'1" slower than Fiedler.
Here comes Bewley. His overnight lead was 22 seconds to Wisniowski and 37 seconds to Kruijswijk. What will his time be?
He stops the clock 2'5" slower than Fiedler, and although he loses time to both Wisnioski and Kruijswijk, he manages to hang on to the leader's jersey!
Today's winner - Jakob Fiedler.
Bewley's ride keeps him in first. The big winners today in terms of the GC were Kruijswijk and Boom, who move up to 2nd and 6th in the GC, respectively. There is no change at the top of any classification.
