Martin Reimer pulled off a surprise win yesterday, getting an early jump on the favourites in the sprint and holding off Bewley and Enger. Schar still has the leader's jersey but is expected to lose it after today's stage. Will we see another long-shot take the win today? And who will propel himself to the top of the GC if Schar doesn't pull out a surprisingly strong ride?
Name HIL ACC Claeys83 73 Kelderman82 72 Gastauer82 76 Koretzky80 79 Vogt80 63 Kwiatkowski79 75 Watson78 72 Paulinho78 75 Jensen78 76 Dyrnes78 77 Chernetskiy78 71 Landa78 69
Stoltz and Ghani get away early to form the break.
They are soon joined by Chernetskiy, Hivert and Lampaert. The former was in the break yesterday as well.
The pack chase them down furiously, worried about the strength of the break.
They're all caught 7 km before the first KOM sprint.
Veyhe attacks and gets away.
Veyhe wins the first KOM sprint. Puccio and Carpenter take the points from the pack.
Chernetskiy and Puccio attack from the break and catch Veyhe.
Chernetskiy wins the next KOM sprint, followed by Veyhe and Puccio.
Veyhe takes the third KOM sprint.
Chernetskiy wins the fourth...
...and the fifth KOM sprint.
Chernetskiy is out on his own at the front. Veyhe is a minute down and Puccio is a further two minutes in arrears. The latter gets caught before the next climb.
Chernetskiy wins the 6th KOM sprint.
Veyhe is caught on the downhill, having taken 2nd in the KOM ahead of Brandao, Cavagna and Betilson.
Cherneteskiy keeps picking up KOM sprint wins, as Cavagna leads the pack through. The gap is down to just over a minute.
64 riders are dropped including Maksimov, Dakteris, Harrison, Docker and Croket.
Chernetskiy is caught with 38 km left.
Barbio wins the next KOM sprint, followed by Dunne, Bevin, Petrovski and Egidio.
Porto, Berg and UBS control the peloton as the enter the final 20 kilometers.
Chernetskiy is dropped again by the pack with 18 km remaining.
Gastauer wins the penultimate KOM followed by Brandao, Bewley, Claeys and Kelderman.
Gastauer keeps going and gets a small gap to the peloton.
Menten, Havik, Cavagna, Kreder and Betilson are the latest to be dropped, with more riders further back.
Gastauer, Kelderman, Koretzky, Claeys and Furdi is the order through the final KOM sprint.
The first four from the list above get a gap to the peleton.
Van Avermaet attacks with 11 km to go.
More riders are getting distanced, including our race leader. That's the end of Schar's hold on the yellow jersey.
64 riders remain in the peloton, chasing the five leaders who lead by 24 seconds.
The leaders are caught with 5 km to go.
Kump gets to the front with 3 km left and attacks immediately. Van Avermaet and Koretzky follow.
The train behind Kump is Van Avermaet - Koretzky - Claeys - Gastauer - Wisniowski - Bewley - Kelderman - Gallopin - Kwiatkowski. Young, Dyrnes and Reimer are on the right. 2 km to go.
Brandao, Burke, Danacik, Kristoff, Dahl Olsen, Guerreiro, Dzamastagic, Declerq and Russo are now dropped.
Kump, Van Avermaet and Koretzky get a gap with 1.2 km remaining.
Van Avermaet with an acceleration under the red kit.
37 riders are dropped from the front group including Vogt, Zakarin, Watson, Paulinho, Brataschuk, Furdi, Tratnik, Landa, Stallaert and Enger.
Van Avermaet and Kump look to be tiring with 800 meters remaining.
But Van Avermaet looks to have got back a second wind and is going for it again.
Kump is drained but the pack chases Van Avermaet in earnest with 300 meters left. Its Koretzky, Kump, Wisniowski, Reimer and Kelderman the most likely to challenge for the win now.
Kerotzky and Reimer close in with 200 meters to go.
It's a three way battle for the win as Koretzky and Reimer are almost level with Van Avermaet.
And Koretzky does it! The Festina rider takes the win on the line! Reimer too, gets past Van Avermaet at the finish to claim 2nd.
Kelderman is 4th and Wisniowski finishes 5th.
Claeys is 6th followed by Kump in 7th.
Gallopin, Bewley and Gerts complete the Top 10, followed by and Gastauer and Jensen.
Today's winner - Clement Koretzky
Big changes in the GC with Kelderman now the leader, and Kwiatkowski's 16th place enough to move him up to 2nd. The top 18 riders on the stage were given the same time. Bernas finishing in the lead group moves him up to 3rd. Polanc with a minute's loss on this stage. Reimer takes over the Points jersey while Chernetskiy's day in the break earns him the KOM jersey. Rybalkin is the new U25s leader while Netia continue a good race for the wildcards, now leading the Team standings.
