[HC] Tour of Beijing

Stage 2: Huainan Circuit - 121.5 km

Welcome to the 2nd stage in Tour of Beijing

Huainan Circuit will be the only flat stage of the tour and we must expect a mass sprint finish with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Haller, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Petit, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cdb.png Kragh, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Meyer and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Rowe as the most like winner today.

Last season Tomohiro Hayakawa (Meiji - JR East) took the stage, he is not attending this season.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/0.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_itd.png García Cortina opens the stage as soon as the flag drops, at his wheel pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Errazkin and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Hofstede

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/1.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mji.png Kinoshita has a puncture and the entire team is back to help.

The breakaway build a lead of 4’48 up to the first point sprint, without fight it goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Errazkin

Soon after pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_mji.png Kinoshita is back in the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/2.jpg

The peloton slowly starts to reduce the gap, when the breakaway reach the 2nd points sprint it is 3’06 with 50 km left.

This time the trio sprint for the points, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_itd.png García Cortina takes it in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Hofstede

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/3.jpg

The peloton up the pace further, it is cycleYorkshire, Carrefour – ESPN and Kraftwerk Man Machine with a joint effort to reel in the breakaway.

With 10 km left the distance is 35”

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/4.jpg

That may not seem to be a lot, but the breakaway fight back nicely, 5 km left and still 27”

But with just 2.7 km left it is over for the three riders when pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Tatarinov flies by them in a sharp curve. Tatarinov continues very fast, hard to tell at this point if this is a late attack or a part of Kraftwerk’s leadout for Marco Haller.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/5.jpg

Guess that is a mystery that will never be revealed.

Anyway with 1.7 km left the front of the peloton is right behind Tatarinov. As expected the sprinters and/or lead-out men in front this close to the line, organized lead-out trains wasn’t really an options catching the break as late as this.

This is the order of the first riders behind Tatarinov
These three very close at the left side of the road: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Bercz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Andriato, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Bellis

1-2 meter back:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Sanikwathi from the pursuit and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cdb.png Kragh Andersen, the best sprinter at this point.

Another 1-2 meter further back:
The next 10 riders, in this ordre:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Cullaigh, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Rowe, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Meyer, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Petit, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Park, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_lpu.png Pelucchi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Politt, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Suryadi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Flügel, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Haller

Another short gap to the next 7:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_itd.png García Cortina, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Lutsenko, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Te Brake, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Takenouchi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Cohen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_rpn.png Barrio, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Bester
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/6.jpg

1.200 meter:
Spoiler
the line is in the wrong location so red kite sprints ect. misplaced

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Andriato fast, now lone in front, also pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Bellis strong in 2nd position, same goes for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cdb.png Kragh Andersen still all alone at the right side of the road.

Behind the mentioned riders we have two lines, both apparently taking advantage of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Meyer’s slipstream, who is now in 4th position close to the left side banner.

On a straight line along the banners: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Suryadi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Te Brake and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Cohen

The other line a little more in the right side crossing the road is:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_lpu.png Pelucchi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Rowe, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Park, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Bercz, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Petit, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Tatarinov, Sanikwathi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Cullaigh

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Haller on his own between Petit and Cohen

We also see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gnr.png Ulissi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Lutsenko sprinting at the rear-right side of the mentioned line

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/7.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Andriato hold out up to about 750 meters from the line, then others start to come faster and it looks like he won’t make it first.

With 600 meters left we got three riders almost side by side. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Andriato still in the lead, but on his left a faster pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Meyer, on his right also fast pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Bellis.

At Bellis right rear side pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_lpu.png Pelucchi also very fast.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cdb.png Kragh Andersen still at the far right now in 5th position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Suryadi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Te Brake and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Cohen still at the wheel of Meyer

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Rowe behind teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Bellis and at his wheel pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Park

We got some meters down to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gnr.png Ulissi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Lutsenko

Also pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Haller and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Petit down here, neither of them really found a good positioning for this sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/8.jpg

300 meters left.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_lpu.png Pelucchi now clearly in the lead, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Rowe just passing teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Bellis, looking great right at his wheel.

But it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Meyer in 2nd position with inch over the two cycleYorkshire riders.

Many of the above mentioned riders still in this for a top ten, but have to mention that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Haller and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Petit have closed the huge gap they had and those are just extremely fast, just a question if the 300 meter is enough for them to move all the way to the top.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/HC/Beijing/S2/9.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_lpu.png Pelucchi wins the stage in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_yor.png Rowe and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_cfe.png Petit takes the last podium.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_kmm.png Haller 4th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Meyer 5th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_phc.png Te Brake 6th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ssc.png Suryadi 7th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_red.png Lutsenko 8th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Cohen 9th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Andriato round of top 10.
