Here's an idea i've had and thought about yesterday, basically while the olympics are on we could have a mini-championships. There are races in both road and track (although Road outnumbers track by far). This is a once a year event, i won't do one until PCM2009. They will run from August 10th until August 20th in the evenings and there are a total of 8 events.
1x Sprinters, 1xMountain, 1xHilly, 1xCobble, 1xIndividual Time Trial, 1xTeam Time Trial and on the track Keirin with 2 heats (max.) and 1xElimination race.
So what routes have i picked:
10th August: For our Prologue, we go to GERMANY for the Deutshland Tour TTT
11th August: For our 2nd event we go to a hilly stage in FRANCE, for the Paris - Nice stage to Cannes
12th August: Taking a break from the road the first Keirin contest starts with the heats, the first 3 placing people from each of the 2 heats will advance to the final on a later date
13th August: Back to the road where we hit FRANCE for a cobbled race like no other. The Paris-Roubaix
14th August: The terrain is great in FRANCE for a climbers stage in the Tour de France
15th August: We take a break from the competition where we all enjoy a nice little rest.
16th August: Back to france for the Individual time trial Cholet-Cholet
17th August: Back to the Keirin for the finals night
18th August: Elimination night, best of 3 rounds.
19th August: Rest Day, prepare your sprint trains for tomorrow
20th August: The final day, there could only really be one choice for a sprinters stage. We head onto the Champs-Elyses for the final day of the contest.
Ok, after that we know who is best at which terrain, we'll also find the best country (average results) and also best overall player. The calendar is complete, but however we can take out a rest day for a criterium (i am thinking about it).
To sign up please state your username and country (for the country contest)
We are limited to say 16 players. The first 11 will be able to participate in the Keirin. However should you rather not compete in Keirin, please say and your spot will go to someone who does want to.

Sounds awesome - maybe you could get a database maker to make a Ladder DB like Ruben's - In National teams format. Or will you just use Ruben's current Ladder DB?

I wasnt suggesting otherwise, but if you were keen to make it a more Olympicsy feel, it would be interesting to have a Ladder Db like the one Ruben made - in a national teams format.

Another suggestion - GameCenter rooms can cater for 20 people at once - so why not allow 20 players to take part altogether, with a limit on who gets in the Elimination, just like in Keirin. (And should the problem of lots of interest arise, a reserves list - incase someone doesnt turn up on the day and there is space in the game)

Yeah, didn't think of the 20 person thing. Ok, 20 people max. Reserves lists will be made. Also i'm thinking a random team lottery. Like i assign teams using a randomising software. No national bias or choosing that way

Yes, that could work well - and ive already thought of a flaw to the national teams idea - the national bonus Cyanide gives riders = advantage to German team in the TTT and advantage to the French team in every other stage.

really, didn't know that. Plenty of time to think about it though. Could be a case of renaming some squads. Say Francais des Jeux ----> Team USERNAME (equal stats so team doesn't matter)

to avoid the national bonus cant you just move the stages to a country that no one wants to be
