Tour of Eritrea

Stage 5: Keren - Keren 146.1 km

Today stage will be races in and around Keren city, even though Keren in located at an elevation of 1,390 meters in the Eritrean Highlands, which might suggest an undulated route, the entire valley sounding the city is at the same heights level, and we will have an rather flat stage with just one KoM climb, before we return for several laps on a circuit route in the city.

All this said there is always the risk that the sprinter teams will be fooled by a breakaway on those late flat stages.

The splits did not have the most severe impact on the overall race result, but a few riders did gain something in the GC sitting better placed that their closest compeditors, those were: George Bennett, Matteo Rabottini, Simon Yates and Antonio Pedrero

This was Davide Appollonioâ€™s first stage win in Tour of Eritrea, his only participation as far as I can tell.

The GC lead is unchanged, Monsalve 1th Natnael Berhane 2nd and Michal Kwiatkowski 3rd
