With the Team Time Trial behind us, it is now time for the riders to ride for themselves, and in most cases for their team leaders! It is a beautiful day as we get started today.
Right off the start, a group of five riders get away:
Coronel
Andersson
Manfred
Dahlberg
Olesen
However, they don't get far before being caught.
Four riders go away again - Suryadi, Olesen, Mayeno and Pirazzi.
A few kilometers later, four more riders get away from the peloton - Dahlberg, Petilli, Schultz and Manfred.
The eight join up and form today's breakaway.
Eight becomes seven 12 km from the summit of the first climb as Olesen is dropped from the break.
20 riders are dropped from the pack already, but no big names are in this group.
Meanwhile, Olesen is already back in the pack.
Mottin, the overnight GC leader, looks to be in trouble already.
The break is caught 5 km from the summit of the climb.
Uwizeyimana wins the KOM sprint. Well, it wasn't really a sprint as no one went for it! Pereyra, Henttala, Elissonde, Hasta, Schinnagel and Moyano are the ones picking up KOM points.
Suryadi and Pirazzi attack and get a gap on the descent.
The peloton is down to 118 riders but Mottin has made it back.
Pirazzi wins the intermediate sprint ahead of Suryadi. Jaser takes 3rd from the peloton. The gap to the break stands at 2'30".
50 km to go now as ENI-MOL and Valio look to have control at the front of the pack.
Panayatov attacks and gets a gap. Henttala pulls Konig away from the pack. They have Lovik for company.
Away from our cameras, Pirazzi also wins the second intermediate KOM sprint ahead of Suryadi. Behind them, Panayatov takes 3rd, with Henttala and Konig picking up the remaining points.
The peloton is down to 89 riders. Oberfranken, Swisslion and Bogota are the teams at the front.
Panayatov has caught up to the break, while Konig, Henttala and Lovik continue to chase them ahead of the break.
And soon the six riders come together at the front. They have a minute's lead to the peloton with 33 km remaining.
It's all back together with 24 km to go. 80 riders now remain in the peloton.
28 riders are getting distanced now. We're 2 km up the final climb to the finish. 18 km left to go.
Rodrigues and Panayatov accelerate away with 14 km left.
Brajkovic and Pereyra are losing touch with the front group.
And now it's Pomoshnikov on the offensive. Konig chases, followed by Warbasse, Suaza and Ratiy.
After some re-arrangement at the front, it is Konig, Warbasse and Suaza in the front group with 10 km to go.
They are soon joined by Panayatov and Ratiy but Rodrigues has cracked.
Konig and Suaza attack again a kilometer later as the chase group start to catch the rest.
Panayatov has attacked as well and catches the leading duo over the next kilometer.
Warbasse now loses touch to the second group on the road. He was the best placed GC contender after the TTT.
The situation with 6 km to go is as follows, as the chase group goes to pieces. The situation is as follows:
E1 -> Konig, Suaza, Panayatov
E2 (47" ) -> Ratiy, Bardet, Pomoshnikov, Stancu
E3 (1'15" ) -> Warbasse
E4 (1'47" ) -> Aasvold, Rodrigues, Cataldo, Campero, Parra Bustamante
Split in E2 with 4 km to go, as Bardet and Ratiy leave behind a struggling Pomoshnikov. Stancu is there to help his team leader.
2 km left, with the front three still together...
...while Ratiy has dropped Bardet. The former has gained some ground too!
Suaza leads the trio into the final kilometer.
They start sprinting with 400 meters to go with Suaza still in front.
Suaza extends his lead as we enter the final 100 meters. Konig hasn't been able to keep up.
Suaza wins ahead of Panayatov!
Konig completes the podium for this stage.
Ratiy gets home in 4th.
Bardet has been caught on the ascent by the ENI-MOL duo of Pomoshnikov and Stancu. Warbasse is closing in on them too.
Bardet sprints to an easy 5th place. A great stage for Adastra!
Pomoshnikov leads his teammate Stancu home for 6th and 7th. Warbasse finishes 8th.
Aasvold and Rodrigues complete the Top 10, just ahead of Cataldo.
Next through are Campero and Parra Bustamante.
Brajkovic and Grmay wrap up the Top 15.
Today's winner - Jaime Suaza
Suaza moves to the top of the GC standings after his win. He is also the tied leader of the KOM standings with Panayatov. In fact, the Top 4 from the stage are the same in the GC after this stage. Warbasse and Brajkovic remain 5th and 7th in the GC, courtesy the advantage they had in the TTT, but they need to improve from today's performance to be able to challenge at the top.
