Stage 1 - Porto-Vecchio > Porto-Vecchio A very short opening stage for sprinters. Not the easiest profile, but also not too challenging - all kind of sprinters should really be able to survive those speedbumps: Kip as the favorite then, but also Van der Sande, Lay, Hayakawa, Keough, Manarelli, Krieger, Vingerling or Modolo should be real threats for the first stage win and hence also the GC lead today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_xer.png Ait El Abdia takes the only intermediate sprint ahead of Rocchetti and Rodríguez - the peloton ain't too far behind with now only 36km remaining and some notable crosswinds, as they go up from less than 10 to 30kmh!

Some may remember, that Van den Broeck (who's not far off the front now as well) did stuff like that back in 2015, where he actually came away with bonus seconds eventually!

Anyway, too early to talk about bonifications for now, but the breakaway group has been caught early today: 15km to the finish and Xero, Meiji as well as Equinor control the race easily!

Despite those notable crosswinds, there's no splits in the peloton: the early escapees, however, can't hang on anymore. Five of them will lose more than three minutes eventually - with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_xva.png Renäng as the only exception!

At the front of the pack, the sprint preparation has been done and with now 2.5km to go, the situation looks as follows:

Uchima providing a nice leadout for Hayakawa so far, as they enter the final kilometre with still the leading position!

Manarelli and Tleubayev right behind them..

Van der Sande now leaving Kennett's slipstream - also a good leadout from the young Kiwi here! Krieger trying to hang on..

Vingerling moving forward now, with Tewelde/Impey at this wheel.. Habtom is there, Lay tries to join them!

Also Tleubayev with a great kick now, going past Manarelli easily..

Vingerling trying to go past them on the left side of the road.. Krieger still in the mix, too! Habtom ahead of Impey, who appears to be stronger than Tewelde now!

Just a few hundred metres to go and Van der Sande now ahead of Tleubayev and a strong Vingerling and Krieger!

Habtom catching up to Manarelli and Hayakawa found back some speed as well.. Jaser moving forward with Modolo at this wheel!

Tleubayev going strong, too: Vingerling and Krieger could not yet go past him with Manarelli and Hayakawa not in a good position to fight for the podium..
