The official Tour de France website has Froome listed as being Kenyan, while he is registered by the UCI as being British. Frankly, I'm not sure which one to go by, being that the Tour isn't under any sort of UCI umbrella or sanction. |

America was pretty close to the top end of the standings last year. all 4 (of 6 starters) finished top 25.

Britain actually have 4 riders in this year's TdF!!
Cav, Millar, Froom and Backstedt!!!
It's a bit of a secret joke to those who bought Cycling Weekly, the 120-ish page edition last Thursday. They say "Brits at the Tour de France" and they list Cav, Millar, Froome and Backstedt (as an honourary Brit)
We claim him as an honourary Brit because he is Welsh-based It is also funny considering, only 1 of those riders is British Froome is Kenyan, Backstedt is Swedish and Cav's from the Isle of Man, which technically isn't in Britain

They are all just "honourary" Brits. What a cycling nation we areB)
To be fair our youngsters are very good, but none of the oldies are even ours

If you look at it they are all british blood just come from somewhere else, bar cavendish, because the isle of man is part of britain as far as I'm aware. not part of england though

Sorry, Isle of Man isn't Britain. But is a Crown Dependancy. Which means that we own them. Think of it as what's left of the empire (Same with Jersey)
Millar was born in Malta, true. But he's Scottish (100%). Just born abroad.
So Cav and Millar are british. Cav has a British racing license. Froome is just strange. And Backstedt is an honary brit purely because of where he lives.

The Isle of Man is a self-governing Crown dependency, located in the Irish Sea at the geographical centre of the British Isles. The head of state is Queen Elizabeth II, who holds the title of Lord of Mann. The Crown is represented by a Lieutenant Governor. The island is not part of the United Kingdom, but foreign relations, defence, and ultimate good-governance of the Isle of Man are the responsibility of the government of the United Kingdom.
Anyway, Millar is Scottish based, Froome has a British passport, Backstedt is Welsh based, Cav is fond of the British. So technically they are all British really

And Ronaldinho has a spanish that doesn't make him spanish. ( only half spanish)
