The next chance for some sprinters to get their first win. Demare by now must be named the big favourite but so many will try to give him a nice challenge.
Except for that early Cat.4 a pan flat stage.
6 in todays break, that also have decided the KoM:
Muhlberger
Cataford
Ludvigsson
Wyss
Oliveira
Skala
No wind and still a group of 23 riders can`t follow with 18km to go, which shows how fast the pace is at the moment. Still 1'13 for the break.
3 riders to mention in that later group:
Choi (20th GC)
Vosekalns(28th GC)
Preidler (30th GC)
A mix of Puma, Aker and Porto riders mainly chasing. 8,3km and still 56s left for the group.
Wyss has a rather big CT/PCT palmares and made the step to PT level in the knowledge of surely less opportunities for himself. But here he shows what is making him that good.
He attacks and tries to win the stage for Isostar. 5km banner and 53s and he seems to be strongest of the breakaway.
One of the most funny moments of this Giro so far! Look at that T-Mobile train for Docker! They give Puma a nice challenge today by the look of it.
Altanzul
Selig
Hadi
Docker
Felline
Tzortzakis
-
Hayakawa
-
Ciolek
Avelino
Demare
Saber
Oliveira trying to bridge to Wyss while Muhlberger only tried and quickly had to realize he can`t.
Wyss having a nice gap now and it will be close. The peloton 36s behind them and a bit more to Wyss.
Porto also make a train for Avelino now with the full overview:
Altanzul
Selig
Docker
Hadi
Tzortzakis
Felline
Hayakawa
Machado
Demare
Mansilla
Carvalho
Van Poppel
Avelino
Saber
Ciolek
700m and only Wyss and Oliveira still in front. Just a few seconds though and Selig making it a long leadout with Docker having lost his wheel.
Hayakawa on the other side making it a perfect leadout for the riders behind him.
Porto a bit blocked by Docler it seems and Demare also having lost the wheel.
Groenewegen at the very end with his daily sprint from 25th-30th position up to the early 20`s already. Not a speed problem. Just positioning.
Oliveira almost caught now but Wyss still having 10s and just 300m to go.
Docker in the middle accelerating with Van Poppel and Saber with Silvestre waiting behind Hayakawa/Tzortzakis.
Avelino and Mansilla in the middle with Demare and Ciolek apparently beaten for today.
Can Wyss hold on? So close but so slow! And in especially Saber and Van Poppel coming fast now. The right side in general the faster today with Hayakawa, Silvestre, Tzortzakis also in the mix and also Docker still up there with Mansilla and Demare following.
Wyss basically stood and not even getting a very good result here.
Saber in the end the lucky one to get a big win for wildcard team Philips ahead of Silvestre and Van Poppel.
Docker still a pretty solid 4th ahead of Mansilla with an even more impressive 5th.
Demare as 6th getting some points for the jersey and is having a 43 point gap to Schleck as best stage racer followed by Saber as very consistent 3rd.
Wyss at least showing up in the top10 ahead of Avelino.
