Tour of California

Stage 4: San Jose/Morgan Hill 194.3 km

The stage starts in Morgan Hill city, at the southern tip of Silicon Valley. Named after Hiram Morgan Hill who indirectly founded the town by transforming most his wife’s large estate into cash in 1892.

A circuit route of several different loops between South San Jose and Morgan Hill in the hilly lower parts of Santa Cruz Mountains to the west and Diablo Mountain Range to the east. Finishing at San Felipe Road as it passes Mount Misery a smaller peak in the Diablo Mountain close to Oak Creek Hills.

Passing the very steep Mount Misery three times, the last two within the final 40 km, this is a very tough hilly route, not having the best day and riders may lose a lot of seconds very fast on that climb, 2.7 km at 10.9 % average.

It is quite clouded, with almost no wind.

The points sprint do not matter to anyone in this group, it is all about KoM points and the dream of a surprise win. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Bostner attacks for the 2nd cat.4 and takes it in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bgc.png Vilela and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ino.png De Souza

The front group is at about 4’30 when the peloton seems to decide that it is enough, now the pace goes up and the distance starts to melt, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_iso.png Rumac, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_eav.png Ghani, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gzl.png Vervaeke and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_nvo.png Hansen most active.

3rd cat.4, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fes.png Kastrantas attacks early but it is again pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_fab.png Bostner first over the line, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ino.png De Souza 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bgc.png Vilela 3rd.

This was the last puncher stage of this tour, the result is that the best punchers have about 5-10 minutes to the best climbers, will be very interesting too see if that is enough. And if the final ITT can play a significant role in the outcome of the race.
