Tour of California
Stage 3: King City - Laguna Seca 195.1 km
We start in King City, a city almost located in the center of California on the banks of Salinas River, the town was originally founded by wheat farmer Charles King in the 1880’s.
We finish at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (previously known as Mazda Raceway) part of Laguna Seca Recreation Area, the paved road racing track was built in 1957.
Laguna Seca refers to a nearby seasonal lake, originally known as “La Laguna Zeca” literally “the dry lake”
The rout is very hilly traveling alongside the Santa Lucia Mountain Range most of the day, especially the last 30 kilometers the climbs comes frequently clearly able to create some nasty caps in the peloton if the pace is fast enough.
It is a sunny day, with just a few clouds and wind speed at approx. 20 km/hour.
no favorite list for this stage sorry
Shirota opens the stage after 3 km with him Barbero, Bonnin, Boonratanathanakorn, Margaliot, Shirota, Trakhov and a little further back Jaramillo
More riders attack from the peloton the seven rider are joined by another eight, Bovenhuis, Gebremedhin, Ghani, Ji, Karatzios, Nych, Sterbini and Tatarinov
The result is that some teams in the peloton doesn’t like the development, it is mostly Senyenov, Jang and Brändle burning calories in the peloton. We get a high speed chase over the next 20 km, before the breakaway is over.
Barbero attacks again getting 1’40, first Shirota then Boonratanathanakorn attack. Finally three more Margaliot, Bonnin and Tatarinov.
The last three does not make it and we end with a breakaway of the day composed by Barbero Shirota and Boonratanathanakorn.
