Last stage here in Malaysia and basically a copy from the opener. 100m longer but other than that the same. Pan Flat and alone against the clock.
Chavanne and Keough the favourites with some outside bets.
Then the GC decision between Bilbao, Di Maggio and Anuar Aziz. Later with a few seconds off but as best prologue rider. Good enough though?
In between 2 groups as 4th Barbin, who is in need of a good ride to not get passed by stronger prologue specialists such as Ignatiev, Brändle, Bille, Koren, Kuboki, Kung, Navardauskas, Kwiatkowski and many more that are not that far behind.
Robert early on with a good time. New best at 4'58 but the best yet to come. Keough a bit later taking this hot seat from him and is 3-4s faster.
Chavanne though also tops this one by the same gap. 4'50! Who is able to beat this? From the opening prologue, I`d say, no one, but with 3 stages in the legs, strength might have changed a bit.
The early starts at least show, it`s just for the stage and no more GC decisions so far.
Viviani and Hansen later then both at 6s and not able to get the win.
Costa then as 16th in the GC far from his potential. Coming in as 10th so far he might climb a bit but then again most following now is also good in those racing and did beat him in the opener already.
Steensen afterwards though with a better time, Bazkhou with a weaker and swapping positions but it`s just +-1-2 spots maximum so far.
Bille next and as 6th he is doing good and staying ahead of Steensen in the GC.
Same for Kung and Kuboki just after him. All defend their positions.
Koren and Brändle the same. All basically repeat their prologue result and the GC is not changing. Neither are they able to pass the top 2 Chavanne/Keough once again.
Van der Sande though as one of the weakest prologue riders then losing quite a bit and more than 30s. This way dropping from 8th to 28th in the GC!
Navardauskas then again defending his 7th!
Ignatiev next up as new 6th putting a lot of pressure on Barbin! Same time as provisional 3rd in Viviani at +6s.
And also Kwiatkowski with a good ride. Just 14s loss and this is just 8s to Ignatiev, which means, the Pole is remaining 1s ahead in the GC!
Pressure on Barbin now, who almost had half a minute gap to the two behind.
He comes in with a time around that half a minute mark as well and now the calculations start.
And it`s close. 1s to Kwiatkowski and same time to Ignatiev!
But micro seconds decide and he drops back to 6th with Kwiatkowski and Ignatiev both climb a step up.
For Barbin though still quite a stunning race as 6th in the GC.
Coming to the top3. Di Maggio as 3rd is 7s down and equally weak as Bilbao against the clock. He will remain top3 easily but can he improve and attack one of the others?
Anuar Aziz is 5s faster and remains ahead. That`s tiny and seeing he is 6s off Bilbao in the GC, it will be a close decision as well if he can attack the top spot even to win his home race!
Bilbao as very last comes to the finish. The time is similar to the others but at +35s!
Same time as Anuar Aziz and yet again the micro seconds will need to be checked. And it`s not enough!
He drops back to 2nd behind Anuar Aziz, who can`t believe it. Big win for Indosat. Home win for Anuar Aziz in the debut!
