Potentially the deciding staeg. Couple of KoMs of which the last Cat.3 seems like the first real difficulty. Afterwards a somehow unranked climb which is the hardest and should be the deciding factor as there is not much left to reel in attackers.
Yesterday Kwiatkowski gained some time just like some others and he must count as big favourite with having an advantage in the epilogue as well. Costa can perform in that TT as well though and is a bit stronger on the hills while Di Maggio, Anuar Aziz or Klemme will need to attack just like others that hate that short epilogue.
7 riders in the breakaway:
Sinelobov
Koch
Tempier
Wirtgen
Wahyudi
Tiller
Cowan
Those 7 will go for the KoM jersey as it`s the only points in the race!
Wahyudi is a well known KoM hunter and takes the first Cat.4 ahead of Tempier and Koch!
Next Cat.4 and this time Tempier for Festina ahead of Wahyudi and Koch in a close fight for 2nd!
And Koch takes the next and makes it some points for everyone.
Wirtgen and Wahyudi behind him with Tempier no points at all and the other 3 are dropped as well.
KoM wise this means the Sauber rider at 9 points ahead of Tempier with 8 and Koch at 7 and a Cat.3 left to decide.
The peloton at 2min with 33km to go might struggle to make it within the next 15km to the top of the Cat.3.
Though they work a lot and it`s mainly 2 teams that now have taken over from Lierse, who were working the early stage.
ENI-MOL: Amanuel, Cohyadi, Michely
Indosat: Russom, Richardson, Pranata
That the teams of the top puncheurs Di Maggio and home rider Anuar Aziz, who obviously wants to perform well here.
Fablok with Ignatiev right behind those 6 chasing riders.
All 4 riders went for the Cat.3 but one rider dominated the uphill fight. Wahyudi collects another KoM jersey after last weeks Tour of Turkey!
Koch as 2nd ahead of Tempier and Wirtgen in that final ranking!
Still a few meters for the peloton to the top of that climb but we see Ignatiev highering the pace with Di Maggio following. Behind Anuar Aziz ahead of two chasing team mates!
Then Honkisz for Kwiatkowski and Gidich for Bilbao trying to chase for their leaders in the big group.
And it`s also over for Van Asbroeck. The longer climbs were too much and while yesterday he went up a shorter one quite well, he must realize the difference to the top puncheurs today. Already dropped with 100 riders still in the peloton with another climb still to go. Former GC leader and 5th Chavanne actually sitting right behind him and same goes for Keough.
Van der Sande or Viviani having a good day and still in the peloton as also Hansen.
The attack on the last climb wasn`t strong enough and hence all back together with Indosat`s De Souza working. It`s a special race for them and they want a top result here. 81 riders left to go for the GC.
He tried on the last climb and he does again. 4,3km on 6,2% in average and a tougher second half!
Di Maggio as 88th in the GC has 55s to gain plus more ahead of tomorrows epilogue.
Behind him Anuar Aziz and Bilbao immediately react with Barbin a few seconds later.
Bernas for Kwiatowski and Costa himself chasing now but none of those two is really having a strong day it seems as the gap widens.
Barbin is so close but still having a gap. 15s for him just ahead of the top where Anuar Aziz is pacing and has solid support by Bilbao and Di Maggio. Later looks like being about to lose contact but it`s not much left.
Behind already a 1min gap to the peloton, where the team`s don`t cooperate very well.
And it`s the trio that will go for the stage and also the GC. Barbin couldn`t join and is now 42s behind. Still 1min ahead of the peloton, who is losing all chances today!
Anuar Aziz in the unfortunate first position ahead of Bilbao. Di Maggio in last position.
900m and Bilbao as strongest sprinter on paper goes into the wind.
Di Maggio using the slipstream to keep contact while Anuar Aziz is losing the sprint by the look of it.
Bilbao is able to hold on until the line and didn`t let Di Maggio pass him. Big win for the Spanish champion.
Anuar Aziz in 3rd. GC wise this means Bilbao in the lead 6s ahead of Anuar Aziz and 7s to De Maggio. A close decision tomorrow as none of them is a good prologue rider. Bilbao and De Maggio actually worst and this way having weaker chances, while Anuar Aziz is slightly better and could step up this 6s.
Barbin with a decent result and as bad prologue rider as well, he should have guaranteed himself a decent GC. Though not impossible to pass him in tomorrows epilogue!
1'42 behind Bilbao and 51s behind Barbin Kwiatkowski passing the line ahead of Bellis and Costa/Ignatiev.
Not their best day and surely shouldn`t have allowed such a huge gap. But the energy was simply not there on the uphill while the downhill then saw them without team mates in the front rows and too much looking at each other.
