A short late hill and bookies rate the puncheurs with a decent sprint as top favourites.
Kuboki, Navardauskas or Bellis surely like todays finish. But the pure sprinters will try to challenge it and with Van Asbroeck and Van der Sande there are two that don`t fear climbing hills neither, even though on a lower level.
Question is if the pure sprinters, strengthwise likely Vanderbiest, Kragh Andersen, Lavoine or Salleh will be able to go over that hill with the others. If so their speed should be some of the best.
Three riders in the break and in especially last is really interesting:
Bissinger
Mancuso
Roux
The Xero rider had a solid year in the CT and is a decent puncheur. Not on the level as the very best but surely a rider that is dangerous on such stage race if allowing him a time gap.
Amateur Bissinger is taking the sprint points while Roux mainly taking the smaller points and hence can`t gain a lot of bonus seconds.
Though with 35km to go on the last sprint, the peloton is almost with them already. Sauber with Wahyudi mainly did a fantastic job and didn`t get them away too far.
On the hillier ground it was Lierse a lot as also cycleYorkshire to work at the front as also a few Carrefour riders. That`s the teams of Van Asbroeck, Bellis and Vanderbiest, so one of each category.
Race leader Chavanne safely sitting in the first positions as well.
Sprinter wise we see in first positions Bellis and Vanderbiest as also Van Asbroeck with team mate Pelucchi. Van der Sande next to him.
Also just around them Lavoine, Kragh Andersen, Hayakawa and Keough.
GC riders Ignatiev, Costa, Navardauskas, Koren also in the mix.
Halfway up we see an interesting scenario though. The puncheurs try to make it hard and it`s Kwiatkowski with an attack.
Navardauskas trying to follow but Van der Sande sitting right behind him and pulling the others with him as also Shapira, who is working for team leader Ignatiev.
Still Kwiatkowski got a small gap over the top and hold on to it on the descent.
A group of 4 really went down the descent in the attempt to close the gap.
8s behind the Pole we see Navardauskas with Van der Sande, Ignatiev and Van Asbroeck behind. So two sprinters made it!
10s behind them the peloton, where Barbin, Palini, Bellis, Koren are in the first rows.
600m and it`s close. Ignatiev as first can`t follow after working a lot on the downhill.
And also Navardauskas is not as fast as the other two and Van der Sande in the first position with Van Asbroeck still behind him.
Both still with a gap to Kwiatkowski though!
300m and the Netia leader is struggling!
Same for Van der Sande, who is now attacked by Van Asbroeck.
From behind Barbin was able to join the Navardauskas/Ignatiev group.
And on the last meters Kwiatkowski was beaten.
Van Asbroeck with a nice win. Van der Sande also impressive but couldn`t match the better sprinter from Lierse today. Still 2nd for him in a photo finish with Kwiatkowski, who though is getting bonus seconds!
And even better the officials give them a 9s gap over the next including Navardauskas, Ignatiev and Barbin!
And then another 10s gap with Bellis and Bilbao leading in the peloton.
Van Asbroeck this way also taking the GC lead, which could become interesting tomorrow while Kwiatkowski and Ignatiev as also Navardauskas move past Chavanne in a great position now.
Some prologue riders lost contact today such as Van Aert but as Lierse rider he might still celebrate today!
