It`s the last stage before the showdown. On paper a sprinter stage but the final 1-2-3 km have an uphill section and hence bookies make it easy and give punchy sprinters the advantage. Same list of favourites as yesterday really with Kreder, Modolo, Reza, Geschke, Favilli, Kadri being listed first.
But just like yesterday some riders want to make it difficult and grab the win instead. ENI-MOL thinking the same obviously and today send a rider into the break in young future great Gregaard.
Kasa
Hindley
Haavardsholm
Chérel
Kreuziger the others.
5,6km to go and yet again a late catch or success for the break as the gap is still at 1min!
Having a great chrono rider such as Kreuziger in the break surely helps as his pace is pretty high.
But it`s not high enough for him and hence he goes into the attack! As weak sprinter he surely had to do something if he wants the win.
Behind Haavardsholm and Kasa try to follow.
For the sprinters this makes it a bit easier than 6 riders cooperating well.
And it`s Oberfranken that really makes a strong push now. Eislers himself could have done well on such uphill finish but as leadout for Geschke this is some pure strength and they have passed all but the recent attacks, which have 40s left with 1,5km to go or 400m gap.
Already on 3% slope other sprinters try to follow Geschke.
Liepins and Kadri closest with Kreder in the middle and Favilli sprinting already on the left make it a strong Delvaux lineup again. Though wonder what happened if they worked together instead with one clear leader!
Von Hoff, Weiss and Habtom behind Kadri just like Vanoverschelde, Coutinho, Modolo, Opie or Breschel. King and Bogdanovics behind the Dane and hence a bit more to pass.
The gap quickly melts as it`s just 200m or 24s now with Eislers still giving it all.
Kadri now just 1 bike length behind Geschke while Liepins is struggling a bit and Favilli also on the others side still fast but in the wind for some time now.
Struggling? Well, not really...Liepins back on track and with some fresh energy again. He is now head to head with Geschke, who has left the slipstream of Eislers.
They almost caught the break now and from behind also Coutinho and Habtom are flying and passing Kadri/Favilli now.
Well, now Liepins struggling indeed.
Geschke in the first position and is attacked by stage 1 winner Coutinho.
Habtom still best placed Equinor but he should have worked for Modolo instead I think, who would be the more suited one but is having still quite a bit ahead of him.
In the middle Favilli is giving up with Von Hoff coming through ahead of Kadri.
Also King, Weiss and Bogdanovics still there.
Geschke had the perfect leadout but in the end it was too early for him to go into the wind.
Coutinho who was in the slipstream for longer now flying towards stage win number 2 in Turkey but Modolo is coming fast behind Geschke. 400m left and also King could get another solid result in the middle as best next to Weiss.
Well it was close and Modolo might have been fastest in the end. But Coutinho takes another win here and moves up in the points competition. Yet another stage, where Modolo should have gotten more support by his team.
King as 3rd with a fantastic result ahead of Geschke, who lost a bit in the end but still finished decent.
Weiss as 5th ahead of Kadri, who had a consistent sprint but never had the top speed today.
