Tour of Turkey - Stage 1
roturn
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0001.jpg

The opening stage in the new Tour of Turkey is something for the sprinters despite a longer Cat.2 and another Cat.4 at halftime. The fast raced first kilometers and last 50-80km are mainly flat and hence shouldn`t exhaust the sprinters too much.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_emo.png Vanoverschelde as fastest on paper but he is lacking in acceleration, something what pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_rot.png Coutinho is quite good at and hence being listed second here. But also pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_epc.png Modolo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_del.png Kreder are great in that and have both already shown their skills this season couple of times.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bnz.png Von Hoff already did beat Modolo and has a stage win in 2018 and hence must be named clearly!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0003.jpg

3 riders in the break:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_sct.png Oliveira
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_csd.png Yamamoto
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ccr.png Puusepp

They have some freedom today as they don`t have a big sprinter. Campari maybe the most with Bogdanovics as 2nd tier while it`s basically GC teams around Cataldo, Brajkovic and Teuns/Costagli.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0009.jpg

Despite 10 big points, no one went for it and they simply passed the KoM with Yamamoto being the lucky on in first position ahead of Puuseep.

Behind Andorra and Oberfranken do the work. Kiserlovski and Elissonde/Ratiy/Geschke their main riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0018.jpg

The gap was at almost 9min but is down to 5'30 at the Cat.4, which is 87k to the finish.
Puuseep this time being the lucky first position rider and as Yamamoto only comes over as last, it means that the Cerveceria rider at 13 points is the first KoM leader followed by the Japanese at 11 and Oliveira at 9 points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0021.jpg

The sprinter teams now have taken over and with 55km it`s down to 3'20.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bnz.png BNZ: Hindley, Flakemore, Schultz
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_emo.png ENI-MOL: Kenyeres, Szalontay

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0031.jpg

Still it lasted until 5km to go when Puuseep as last rider was caught around 500-1000m later as his two companions.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0033.jpg

And we see 3 nice trains today, which looks like a good fight with BNZ in the middle a bit ahead.

Rothaus not yet 100% working with Markus and Coutinho basically next to each other while Minnard on the other side apparently annoying the ENI-MOL train a bit.

Though while BNZ has the strongest 1st men, the last leadout is strongest with Rothaus and ENI-MOL, as Markus and Krasnov easily top Batardene.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0047.jpg

Quite at the same time with 1,5km to go all trains are starting with their final leadout!
Markus on the right even moves the Rothaus train into first position slightly ahead of Batardene for Von Hoff in the middle.
Krasnov with Vanoverschelde behind also coming fast now.

Modolo, Manan, Opie waiting behind them while Kreder is having a small gap in the middle and Geschke already attacks them through a small gap.

Liepins and King behind Manan as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0056.jpg

800m and BNZ indeed hugely struggling now as Batardene as last men is not strong enough. That`s the moment, where you really need to pick up your pace and if you are not capable of it, you don`t win.

Coutinho in the best position now alongside Modolo behind him as Geschke is in the wind alrady for some time and without a gap.

Vanoverschelde and Manan same with 1 bike length behind though and Manan, Liepins, King sitting with them while Opie also in the wind for too long.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0060.jpg

500m and only now Coutinho and Vanoverschelde slowly move out of the slipstream!
King on the far left is attacking them with Modolo coming through the middle behind Geschke.

Unfortunately missed to take a screen in between...
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0064.jpg

But the long wait in the slipstream did help Coutinho to take it and the small advantage he already had with 500m to go was enough to hold up the others. Big win for the team, that mainly is formed out of sprinters.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2HC/Turkey/mg18_turkey_01_PCM0065.jpg

A bit surprising King in 2nd! He came from pretty far behind and had a long sprint but in the end the needed pace.

Vanoverschelde next ahead of Geschke, who impressively hold on ahead of Liepins and Manan. Opie as well with a strong 7th out of that position and the left side apparently was rather fast in general in the end.

Modolo, who went into the middle from Coutinho`s wheel with the wrong decision and only 8th ahead of Kreder and Von Hoff.
