Circulo de Juarez - Stage 3
tsmoha
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_000.png

Stage 3 - Galeana > Villa Ahumada And another flat stage without any real difficulties: Manninen the new race leader thanks to the most consistent performance so far (two 3rd places). Guarnieri with quite a shocker yesterday after winning the opening stage - he certainly needs to bounce back from this disappointment. Van Heerden still looking like a true contender for the GC victory and also Von Hoff will fancy his chances for a notable result after sprinting to a great victory yesterday.

Just like on the previous two days, we see several empty-handed attacks in the early part of the stage:

#1 - Killy, Blums, Daspuntsag, Roberge, Ballesteros, Curry
#2 - Brynjolfsson, Ruiz, Kukrle, Nyoni, Beyer, Minoungou
#3 - Nardin, Kulppi, Kukrle, Ruiz, Anderberg
#4 - Plucinski, Kamp, Zaraliev, Blums, M Velits
#5 - Flakemore, Nardin, Kulppi, Anderberg

With now just 115km to go, we finally have the break of the day then:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Tivani
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ada.png Zaraliev
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_zal.png Savickas

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Tivani pretty much dominates all of the four sprints (2x mountain, 2x intermediate) halfway through the stage then! He takes the first mountain sprint ahead of Zaraliev and Savickas..
He takes the first intermediate sprint ahead of Zaraliev and Savickas..
He takes the second mountain sprint ahead of Schinnagel and Zaraliev..
And he takes the final intermediate sprint ahead of Savickas and Zaraliev!

Provisional KoM Tivani 10, Anderberg 9, Gregaard 8, Hänninen/Daspuntsag 5

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_003.jpg

The same teams like on the two days before share the work in the pursuit of the breakaway group: Sauber, Rothaus and cycleYorkshire.. Manninen's Valio team with just a minimum effort to support those three teams, that do look in control again though: 1'35" for the escaping group with still 30km to go..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_004.jpg

Opposing to yesterday, the peloton struggles to close the gap with now less than 4km to go!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ofr.png Schinnagel senses a chance and he attacks the leading group, that is about 32 seconds ahead of the chasing pack!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_005.jpg

2.8km to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ada.png Zaraliev jumps behind Schinnagel, just like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_azt.png Tivani!

The peloton is 24 seconds in arrears and the sprint trains have been set up in the meantime:

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_del.png Guarnieri anything but well placed far behind the front rows! Just like some other sprinters (Colbrelli, King/Angarita) he's not where he has to expected to be and that certainly ain't good news for his team..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ada.png Zaraliev goes clear from Schinnagel/Tivani close to the flamme rouge!

The sprinters had almost caught up to the trio, but now it's another gap between them and Zaraliev:

Sauber's train working the best, as we see quite some changes in some hectic moments! Vanderaerden/Manninen moved to the front in the meantime and when Rothaus' train blew apart, we see Van Heerden already sprinting on his own in between some Eddie Stobarts and Keukeleire not far behind him!

Modolo trying to hang on, just like Rowe or Kruopis and Von Hoff.. Vanoverschelde launches his sprint on the left side of the road..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_008.jpg

Zaraliev maintaing a small gap under the kite: Manninen/Vanderaerden still at the front of the bunch, where we get a clearer picture of who's in the mix for line honours today..

Vanoverschelde, Salleh, Thorsen/Cimolai, Keukeleire, Van Heerden in the most promising positions! Modolo, Kruopis and Von Hoff already with a disadvantage, that may be hard to counter!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_009.jpg

They are coming closer together though: Zaraliev is caught by Manninen and also his teammate Vanderaerden goes past him!

Thorsen, Salleh, Van Heerden now with a good pace.. Kruopis has caught up to the front as well, while Vanoverschelde and Keukeleire struggle to finally move forward! Also Modolo and Van Hoff came closer, but they seem to be out of striking distance for a stage win today.. Corti as his team's best with Rowe totally blowing apart.. also Guarnieri still nowhere to be seen near the front!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_010.jpg

Final few hundred metres and Manninen now struggles to keep his pace! Salleh and Kruopis as the fastest at the point, attempting to go past Manninen on those final metres!

Van Heerden/Hochmann, Vanderaerden, Thorsen not far behind.. also Von Hoff in a better position now! Keukeleire at Thorsen's wheel..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_011.jpg

..but the stage win will go to either Salleh, Kruopis or Van Heerden!

Manninen loses ground quickly and there's Thorsen and Von Hoff fighting against him for the final two Top-5 places!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_spr.png Salleh takes the stage! Another thrilling sprint with another winner: after two rather disappointing days for Salleh, the Malaysian bounces back in style.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_rot.png Van Heerden with a strong finish to come 2nd ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_zal.png Kruopis! Certainly a great result for Kruopis, even though it's been an unlucky 3rd with Van Heerden going past him with a final push. A key result for Van Heerden with Guarnieri once again missing out on bonifications today!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bnz.png Von Hoff comes in as a clear 4th - another strong result after yesterday's huge victory!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_esc.png Thorsen with yet another solid performance to finish 5th today. It seems like he will be of signficance here!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_vad.png Manninen has to settle for a 6th place after cracking on the final couple of hundred metres..

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_gcn.png Keukeleire, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_ada.png Vanderaerden, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_epc.png Modolo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_rot.png Hochmann complete the Top-10..

Another shocker for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_del.png Guarnieri, who comes in as 17th eventually.. Rowe even worse as 26th, but Guarnieri certainly as the biggest disappointment today!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Races/C2/juarez/MG18_juarez_3_014.jpg

Third day, third different stage winner and third different GC leader: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_rot.png Van Heerden moves up to 1st thanks to his second runner-up here. Manninen 4 seconds behind as 2nd, Von Hoff 5 seconds down as 3rd.

Salleh moves up to 4th with 15 seconds off the race lead, Keukeleire and Guarnieri with 17 seconds as 5th and 6th. Guarnieri now needs to find back to his legs that made him win the opening stage, if he wants to stay in contention for the GC victory or podium!

Tivani had a great day and moves up to 1st in both mountain and the U25 classification!
