The riders got a taster of the Col de Saint Jean de Maruejols yesterday, and now face it a further 6 times today. Surely a platform for attacks, and not just in the final lap, with the finish line coming just a kilometre after the summit.

A joint lead in the KoM competition between O'Connor and Nych after the Stage 1 break. Nych is the one in the jersey, and he is back in the breakaway. Yechevkel and Jensen with him.

Asgreen launched a counter-move, joined by Menten, Marcos and Kortsikadis. But Generali and Indosat weren't having that, chased those four down, and left the other three to it.

Climb 1: Nych expectedly takes the full points, although Jensen runs him close. Cahyadi (4 points earned from relaying yesterday) attacks to take 4 more points for 4th. Molard rides so hard for Generali that there's a split: Ulissi, McCarthy, Lutsenko, Anuar Aziz, Flugel and Di Maggio are in there.

Climb 2: Split doesn't last, nor does Cahyadi's attack this time, and nor does the breakaway. Another 10 points for Nych to go to 38, while Jensen has gathered 16. But Bille, Molard and Canola collect the rest for Generali and catch the break in the descent.

Climb 3: Cahyadi attacks too early, gets caught by Khalilikhosroshani. But the Iranian swings over near the top to allow Generali to sweep to more points with Molard then Silva. It's all red, yellow and orange right now.

Climb 4: Finally Cahyadi times it right to pick up a juicy 10. This time Khalilikhosroshani does stick the course for 8 points, with Molard there again for 6. The Frenchman now has 22 pts and is into 2nd place, with Cahyadi and O'Connor back on 18.

Climb 5: And the penultimate climb. But all we see is ENI-MOL switching to relaying to points rather than attacking. Mancuso this time ahead of Lavery and Skjerping. Changing of the guard for Generali - that's Ulissi in 4th!

That takes us to the final lap. One more climb remaining. It starts with about 6km to the finish. It starts with a Lutsenko attack.

Di Maggio, Flugel, McCarthy and Anuar Aziz are on to him. They open a 17 second advantage, while Ulissi is looking to Lavery and Hermans.

Now Dowsett attacks! Betancourt is on his wheel. We're told that Gautier, Prevar, Ulissi and Izagirre are all in attack mode as well.

The groups all come back together as the summit approaches. Ben Nasser and Bystrom the other riders up there as they all sprint up the final stages of the climb.

A lull with the descent. The Flamme Rouge is actually a bit further than a kilometre out, as it was not able to be erected on the junction for which they previously swung into the longer downhill on.

Narrow lead for Di Maggio on McCarthy, Flugel and of the rest of those not named yet we can see Pichon and Barrio joining this group. Carlsberg duo Juul-Jensen and Stuyven are a little further back, with Chaves, Dyrnes, Palini and Gougeard.

Celebrations for Kraftwerk as Aleksandar Flügel takes Stage 2 in a thrilling finish! Prevar comes through for a very strong 2nd, edging out Gautier and Pichon on the line. The latter showing great skill in navigating around Betancourt and McCarthy. Lutsenko is only 5th despite looking to be accelerating through for the win, while McCarthy held off the fast finishing Ben Nasser for 6th.

Bystrom so well placed but couldn't get off Flugel's wheel in the end for 8th, Anuar Aziz left it too late for 9th, while Betancourt hung on for 10th. Ulissi got swamped over the summit and found no way through for 11th, while Izagirre in 12th completes surely one of the closest packed Top 12s we will see all season.

Hermans, Dowsett, Juul-Jensen, Barrio and Chaves come next, with Di Maggio capitulating all the way from 1st to 18th. Stuyven and Dyrnes made the Top 20.

Flügel moves into the race lead with an 8 second advantage over both Gautier and Ulissi. Gautier the more consistent, and is the one in 2nd overall as it stands. Prevar now sits 4th, as the only other with a time bonus. Accumulative positions so far see Lutsenko in 5th, then McCarthy, Pichon, Ben Nasser, Bystrom and Hermans. They all trail by 28 seconds, it's all going to come down to the final stage.

92 riders in the front group today and still therefore within half a minute of the race lead. Paulus down in 38th fails to defend the U25 lead, as Gougeard takes it from him following his 22nd place finish.

Generali still lead the teams classification from Kraftwerk, though Nordstrom had the best 3 aggregate positions today. Gaps could make those calculations irrelevant tomorrow, else the calculator will need to come out.
