You could try to open pcm.exe in XP-compatability mode... maybe that will smooth the performance somewhat... |

unfortunately there is no vista installation cd delivered with my notebook, vista is on it tough
if I install XP, I never can return to vista..
but right now i'm f*cked up cause of the fact that my strong notebook doesn't run pcm08 as it should do
I paid a big price for it.. |

You cant really expect it to run perfectly with that system though.

You don't have to install XP; just open pcm.exe with the option 'XP compatability mode' checked... (right click on pcm.exe, properties, select the tab: compatability, check/select XP-compatability)

unfortunately that won't make any difference...
my 2GB RAM and 2,0 GHz processor can't be the problem, is it maybe the Nvidia Geforce 7000M videocard? (256mb) |

I just read on a Cyanide page that an Antivirus program can significantly slow down pcm 08, anybody who can affirm this? |

If they say so, it is probably true (although this depends on your virus program; which one do you have?). Try shutting it down and see how it goes |

The reason for that is pretty clear. Antivirus programs usually take up a lot of memory (mine does), so if you disable it it will free up some RAM. |

it does make a little difference but it is still far from optimal...
I have tried everything: play in XP compatibility, shut down my virusscanner, no success, I'm desperate... |

I'll say the problem would be your grafix card...
But what resolution do you play the game in, and what are your detail levels?
Do you use shadows?
I have a laptop
Dualcore 1.86 MHz, 2GB Ram, Geforce 8600M, Vista.
I play the game in
1600x1200
forrest details 1
(the two others, wich I can't remember the name of) = 2
shadows = no (important on my system)
Remember to quit the game and re-enter every time you change something!
EDIT: I also tried in XP-competability mode, but I could feel no difference at all.

resolution 1440 x 900 widescreen
details levels all 0, no shadows, no cities shown
@Scandal: can you play the game well?
cause your processor is weaker than mine.. |

Yes, with the settings mentioned It runs smooth most of the time (a bit lag, when the road turns ect...)
It think the big difference is my grafix-card. |
