Vuelta al Tachira - Stage 1

Day one in Tachira and it`s pan flat. The fastest on paper are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_xfc.png Kip, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_bnz.png Von Hoff and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2018/Micro/mg18_epc.png Modolo with later prefering the tougher stages though.
Next to Kip also Brus and Jones did not get a contract in the FA period and are riding on small amateur contracts. Still they might be the next 2 fastest sprinters behind the top3.

Leadout wise Kip has an excellent helper in Tleubayev, Von Hoff won`t get a lot support while Modolo has Ratto, who might lack the speed but can keep up the pace for a long time.
The only other team with a potential sprint train is GCN with lower favourites Opie/McLay though.

Festina, BZN and Bianchi chase behind for their sprinters while Christian has taken the first sprint 4 minutes ahead.

Cherel takes the 2nd and the gap is down to 1'45 with 21km to go with Festina doing 90% of the work now.

With 9km to the finish the break is over and the sprinter teams slowly form their trains and bring their sprinters into position.

One real train only by Bianchi Racing as the two Festina in front are regular chasing riders.

BNZ trying to get a sprint train as well but so far it`s only Schultz in the mix while Von Hoff and another team mate are on the right trying to get to the front, similar as Kip and a team mate.

In a better position Keough and Modolo who sit behind Tempier/Schultz in that long train.

Jones, Cano, Dupont, Breschel then next to Kip/Von Hoff while also Sweeting, Bogdanovics and McLay still hope to get further to the front.

The Bianchi leadout not working very well as it`s now Leezer on the left, Vasylev in the middle and Brus a bit blocked behind.

Same for all trains though. Modolo trying to go through the middle, Jones on the left, while Von Hoff, Kipp, Sonnery and others are on the pretty filled right side.

A bit behind the Flamme Rouge Tleubayev now takes over and behind him Baterdene and his leader Von Hoff as also Kip.

Then Modolo in the middle next to them but in the wind already. The Bianchi riders, Jones and Dupont next but Brus struggling hugely now.

Kip now moves into the wind on the far right with Modolo storming through the middle.
Baterdene now also making room for Von Hoff to start his sprint.

Surely the 3 best placed here with Dupont and others struggling to close the gap.

Modolo lost a bit of his speed in the end while Kip and Von Hoff went close up to the finish line. In the end though the Festina amateur takes the opener and hence the first yellow jersey in the 2018 Vuelta a Tachira!

Dupont on a strong unexpected 4th ahead of Cano with Keough and Sweeting following. Quite some riders lost a bit in the end due to being in the wind too early.

Kip celebrating his win and surely paying back a lot of his huge amateur wage already. Money wise the 2nd most expensive one behind Modolo actually and far from an regular amateur paycheck.
