CUNEGO GOES DOPING FREE
Damiano Cunego (Lampre) has agreed to be part of a new anti-doping initiative in Italy and will ride the Tour de France with a temporary tattoo on his arm saying “I'm Doping Free”.
Cunego agreed to sign up to the campaign after reading a letter published in the Gazetta dello Sport newspaper by club cyclist Marco Guadagnini. The former Giro d'Italia winner and overall contender in the Tour de France will officially present the campaign before the start of the Tour on Saturday.
“We've got to launch a message and we've got to show that we want to change things,” Cunego told Gazzetta.
“It's nothing to be ashamed. It's important that people know that life and sport is about hard work and making sacrifices, not taking short cuts.”
“I think people will be surprised by how many athletes sign up to the “I'm doing free” project.”
uhhhh.... a tattoo saying 'i'm dope free' yeah....

MCQUAID HOPES FOR A SUCCESSFUL TOUR
Despite the power struggle between the UCI and Tour organisers, UCI President Pat McQuaid has told L'Equipe he hopes this year's race is a success “without trouble, without problems and without scandal.”
The Tour will be held under French Cycling Federation rules and governance because of the fights between the UCI and ASO but McQuaid seems to be offering an olive branch just a few days before the start of the Tour in Brest.
+ The UCI have deinied claims saying their going to announce a list of doped riders taking part in the tour, during the tour.

enmark's Michael Rasmussen has been suspended for two years by the Monte Carlo Cycling Federation for missing out of competition anti-doping tests before the 2007 Tour de France according to a report on the www.gazzetta.it website.
Rasmussen was kicked off the 2007 Tour de France while wearing the yellow jersey and sacked by the Rabobank team last year after it was revealed he missed out of competition tests by both the Danish Cycling Federation and the UCI.
The Monte Carlo Cycling Federation began an investigation last year, held a disciplinary hearing on May 25 and finally reached a verdict on Tuesday, just four days before the start of this year's race.
Rasmussen has made it clear he will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the verdict because he believes the missed-tests of the Danish Cycling Federation and the UCI cannot be accumulated and trigger a three-missed-test suspension.
In a press conference during the second rest day of the Tour de France in Pau, Rasmussen claimed that the Rabobank team knew about his movements and he has began legal action for compensation of 5.5 million Euros. A verdict in that case is expected on Wednesday.

I read on Feltet.dk that it starts from the day he left Tour de France.

Danish doping expert, Rasmus Damsgaard and his Swedish collegue, Bengt Saltin have blaste WADAs method for being too tight and absolete. The tests run by WADA only test for a few well known types of EPO whereas one could buy and use a new type produced in China or India and it wouldn't show up on the standard WADA test.
Last year, Damsgaard became aware of the problem, when he tested five samples who had all been tested negative by WADA. All five contained EPO, just not in a form that was on WADAs list.
He made WADA aware of his findings in January but they are yet to react. Damsgaard says, that it is frustrating as the WADA will likely claim that everything is fine and that they are on top op things when the olympics start, when clearly they are not.
He further argues, that a broad implementation of the blood passport could be a way of stopping the dopers as he suspects extensive, regular tests will cause the cheaters' blood values to fall.
What are your thoughts on this?

This means no more Rabobank... Rabobank has said they will shut down the team immediately if they lose the case. So no Rabobank in the Tour? |

I only think they would stop if Rasmussen got the full award from the judge. He only got 750,000 euros when he had sued for 6 million euros afterall.

Rabobank said they would shut down if the court decided the team management had known about Rasmussen's whereabouts. Which the court certainly has done. So now we just have to wait for Rabobank's decision and see if Rasmussen has destroyed dutch cycling and a big sponsor in cycling.. |

Way to go Rasmussen, not only do you manage to disgrace the biggest race of them all, you also somehow dodge a ton of bullets from UCI and then nick a lot of money from Rabobank and now you might take them down with you in your fall.
If it wasnt because I, as a cycling fan, were enraged, i would have been proud to call him danish.

I'm not sure about Rabobanks role in all of this.
But if the court has sided with Rasmussen i'm sure it's not just for giggles.
I'd hate to see Rabobank go. But both Rasmussen and the Rabobank team must, on equal terms, stand up and face the music, whatever the tune is. |

Well in all fairness. He has just gotten a two year suspension, så I don't see how he has dodged a lot of bullets. Regarding the lawsuit against Rabobank. The ruling in the case shows us once and for all, that Rabobank were aware of Rasmussens locations and missed dope tests prior to the Tour. They are hardly innocent in the Rasmussen scandal.
